That analogy might have more validity if there weren't Republicans beating a horse to death with a sledgehammer every time it raises its head. That and the fact that there are armed guards in a circle around the horse and the Republicans beating it to death.

This is politics. I understood his 'the public option is just one piece of the whole health care issue' to paraphrase. But the press has enjoyed turning nothing into something. They are just one portion of the mis-information sources. < :-)

Isn't it interesting that in the countries which actually have universal publicly funded health care nobody is arming themselves in the streets shouting for its abandonment and dismantling? Only in America, I guess! Time to watch "Sicko!" again, people.

Why woo the right?Democrats control the house, senate and WH. Back on the campaign trail Obama told his followers to brook no compromise. What happened to that? Why is Obama getting all religious and talking about his opponents "bearing false witness" and telling reporters "we are our brothers keeper"?

Obama should base his health careplans on the NHS. A chat and advice from acouple of experienced political pros , for example John Prescott and Fank Field would set him on the right path.
Obama lad, do not allow the right wing lunatic fringe destroy your plans, no comprise should be accepted, or you will be known as a lame duck like Bush.

Did you not read the article? There is a huge split in the Democratic party. A minority of them refuse to vote for a bill if it includes a public option. IE running insurance companies out of business via government funded health care. The majority of Dems want that public option. And won't vote for anything without it. Republicans who are in the minority in both houses, and who can't even filibuster without Dem support, will not support anything with a public option. This means, that the Liberal Dems don't have the votes to pass it, much less to prevent filibusters. The conservative Dems don't have the votes to pass it either, unless they get Republican support. Thats why they need Republicans to support them. However the question is, why should Reps support anything like this, unless it is real reform. Not just undercutting insurance companies. If there is no Tort reform, Republicans aren't going to support it, and thats something very few Dems are willing to consider.
