This could have been a bi-partician bill, but the republicans didn't want to accept change. So they have decided to since we can't do business as before, we don't want any part of it.
That's fine. Those republicans that have signed onto it will be able to say in the future that they saw a good package and they'll reap political rewards from this.
But even so, the money won't get to the street for 2 or 3 months as it is, so the sooner it's signed by Obama the sooner it get's to the street. < :-)

Less than a month in office and over a trillion dollars added to the deficit. If deficit spending was stimulative, we should have had a roaring economy after Bush's spending (granted there was 9/11 and two wars to pay for). Obama will top Bush's deficits in a mere two years. He is already off to a fast spending start.

aday, are you actually following this? Evidential, you're not.
I'd like for you to tell us how you feel you and others are going to benefit?
The repubs didn't sign onto it, so please don't bring them up.

aday: Members of two liberal factions, the Congressional Progressive Caucus and Congressional Black Caucus, earlier told their Democratic leaders they were not pleased with the compromise spending bill and that they need sufficient time to read the voluminous legislation before voting on it."
So, I see you're not following this. It just so happens that this is not being held up by ONLY the repubs....

Is everyone happy now that the salt water marsh mouse is now going to be saved?

skipthesong, I don't think that the republicans are holding up anything. I'm just talking in general about how I see the republican's actions toward the whole stimulus plan. < :-)

how I see the republican's actions toward the whole stimulus plan" Look, would you expect the dems to go against their base? Of course not. This bill really goes counter, for the most part, what repub doctrines stand for.

In a rush to do something, Obama and his cast of tax cheating disciples have pretty much grabbed any bucket from the garage and have thrown it onto the fire not knowing if it contains gasoline or water.
As details come out and the effects are known, this will go down as one of the biggest follies in American history. The economy has just become Obama's Iraq. Just in time for the mid term elections.

what is this holding up legislation garbage? the democrats are about to spend nearly 1 trillion dollars of money we don't have and they want to sneak whatever they wrote into it behind closed doors to the President. Where's the transparancy? Why is my government not allowing my congressman and senators the time to review the bill? Man these Democrats are bigger liars and cheats then the Republicans. The special interest groups and lobbyiest are licking the chops. Change we can believe in. Thanks Obuma.

Actually, they'll pay a price for their actions. This will likely cost Specter his seat, as the Republican party in Pennsylvania won't support him like they had been. The 2 from Maine are a bit different. While they'll pay a price, it will be more long term. If the Dems had really wanted bi-partisan support, they could have had it. They were the ones who chose this path. Had they gone to Reps, and said, what will it take to get your support on this, they could have easily picked up 30 or 40 votes in the house, and at least a dozen votes in the Senate. The bill would be significantly different however, probably only spending 300 billion at most rather then the 800 Billion currently on the table. The bill would have included more tax cuts, and real stimulus rather then 100 billion stimulus, and 700 billion pork. But thats the way it goes. Dems are in control, they're not really interested in Bi-partisanship, only in talking bi-partisanship.

skipthesong I know that it does. I'm just questioning whether the republicans might want to consider doing business differently. Maybe their doctrine needs to be updated and changed.
I'm not a republican and don't adhere to the republican doctrine, but I hear where some republicans are talking that their party needs to come into the 21st century and look at some of their beliefs.
I hear where some are looking at changes to beliefs in abortion or stem cell science and just an array of things.
And maybe their beliefs in the economy might need to change.
Hey you guys can believe what you want. Your business. I just remember some republicans were trying to use the change mantra during the elections also, just curious why they don't change with the times.
Just food for thought. Have a great day. < :-)

The donks loaded up all their social spending in something called stimulus in order to avoid the normal legislative process for next years budget. Perhaps this was really a slight of hand in an attempt to fit in payoff to their political supporters without having to put it into next years budget. Anyway, Mike Steele is onto them and Democrats have giving the Republicans the ability to rise from the ashes. Good going Obuma.

Are the Republicans that incompetent that they can't split the work of reading the bill amongst 10-20 of them? It's all there to be read.
Great. Now Pennsylvanian will have two Democratic senators.

Not by a long shot.
