War is a terrible thing, and he no doubt saw and did some terrible stuff. I don't wish that on anyone, and if we could ever learn from past mistakes we might actually put our powers and perseverance to good use instead of for destroying each other. It's no wonder this humble man didn't want to be in the 'limelight' or be called a hero.
I feel sorry for these men, but at least they can at last rest.
