This is so sad, a mercy killing. Such intelligent animals, only a sadist would consider murdering one for "science".

Well - even if they had managed to nurse it back into good health and released it with another pod of whales - Japan just would have fished it up next year anyway (hah! black humour) Did you hear, they have found a dead female whale up the coast - doing DNA tests as it might have been the stranded baby's mum.
