" was driven by ideological and political motives. Zehaf-Bibeau had prepared a video recording of himself just prior to conducting this attack. "

Well yes ... he was going to die on a jihad, and be rewarded for that with eternal paradise. There is nothing new here. What is amazing is to what contortions the media go through not to name the ideology that drove him. From the article alone, it might as well be Buddhism...

His father was Libyan. How come we don't hear about him?

The guy was a crackhead with mental issues. Someone like that is a prime candidate to get sucked in by ideology, particularly if they are disaffected with society (and crackheads with mental issues usually are). While ideology was the reasoning behind the attacks, the root reason was his addictions and his mental illness.

The government is trying to use this guy's actions to introduce new laws that will reduce the freedom and personal liberties of the people of Canada. That's ridiculous. How about creating support programs for drug addicts with mental illness.

@Laguna You don't tend to hear about the kidnapping of random muslim tourists or plans for a global Buddhist struggle for a Buddhist state, though.

@Laguna, while I don't condone mob violence, did it ever occur to you the reason why the Buddhists mobs are trying to drive out the muslim community is because there were too many cases of muslim men kidnapping and raping Buddhist women and girls then telling the women they're muslim now and have to marry into Islam to keep their "honor"? Same thing is happening in India with the Hindi.

This and more situations happening around the world in western nations with "recent" converts to Islam keeps re-affirming the cult ideology that Islam promotes instead of prevents. This guy may have been a drug addict (which does cause mental illness), but adding that to Islamic extremism? Like adding oil to fire.

Exactly. Neither do you hear of Bahais, Jains, Yazidis, Catholics, or Scientologists do such a thing. The demand for a theocratic state and the rewards of paradise for the believers who kill and die in the holy war belong to one particular ideology. Which PC doctrine states must not be named...
