“Once Islamic law is imposed there will be no problems in Swat. The Taliban will lay down their arms.”

    Haven't we heard that before?

Trusting the Taliban is like feeling confident cornering in the wet in a 911 Turbo.

Ceding anything the fundies, who ultimately only wish to force their brand of fundiness on everyone is a mistake on the part of Pakistan.

Mush was a dictator - but we knew where we stood, and who had their fingers on the button that makes the very loud bang. What's happening in Pakistan is disturbing.

"Peace talks" LOL. The proper word is surrender. Look out for the next Jihadist country, but this time one armed with nuclear weapons. The West better wake up soon, if we want to survive this.

Didn't bush make Pakistan an ally in 'the war on terror'? Just curious... they don't seem all that friendly these days. Of course, launching a few dozen missiles into a country from drones might do that to an ally.

Seriously, though... I agree with the general sentiment that things are going down the toilet worse than before over there.

There is the possibility that they're using an angle to give the Taliban pockets of control for them to set up a government which will centralize them and then make them easier to attack. There's also the angle that areas that are considered to be outside the control of Pakistan officially can't bring any kind of effective condemnation when the US strikes those areas.

But in the end who knows what they were thinking. Pakistan seems to be giving up and hoping that the Taliban will just stay in their little areas and not bother anyone else. But that just hasn't been in the case in the past with previous "peace agreements." The Taliban just waited for the Pakistani troops to leave, then expanded their areas without resistance.
