This is going to be a must see TV event. Can't wait to see Palin exposed for her short comings.

Sounds like the battle of the tall tale tellers......

I thought that McCain/Obama was going to be good. This is going to be even better. She's not debating some Alaskian about growing cabages, she's debating Joe Biden.

Another night of popcorn and beer. < :-)

This is gonna be a blow out!

adaydream, I will stick to beer only that night because I don't wanna get chocked

Sarge, Sarah Palin is the biggest liability that the Republicans could have chosen. The Alaskan independence campaigner is clueless about international matters and has so far not given one press conference, so scared are your pals about what she might actually have to say. None of the evidence suggests that she'll be able to do much more than give a massive boost to the Obama-Biden ticket while shooting herself in the foot.

There's plenty of talk of her dropping out and I'd have some respect for McCain if that's what he persuaded this nutcase to do. "For the good of America, and the Free World" as you'd probably say

If she chickens out like McCain tried, they should sub in Tina Fey.

As a condition of the debate, Palin insisted there be no laugh track.

Joe's hairplugs are up to the task. His mouth makes him a bit of a loose cannon, and Neal Kinnock probably never penned anything on mortgages and massive bailouts that Joe could memorize in preparation, but I am confident the networks will convince us again how we need to vote for Barack Obama.

Why are we surprised that Sarah Palin can't put two thoughts together in a legible sentence? The oil companies up there pay for the politicans flash lifestyles, not their education.

    SushiSake3

Nessie, actually the mccain campaign pushed hard for - and won - a condition that inter-candidate conversation be cut from the planned 5 minutes down to 2 minutes.

mccain knows Palin is a loser.

Every time she opens her mouth, more people decide to vote for Obama :-)

sushisake - you are from the UK. Is there anything Neal Kinnock wrote which Joe could memorise for the big debate? It would help. With the aneurism and all he aint the sharp cookie he once was (voted against Gulf War 1 - right on! Voted in favor of Regime Change in Iraq - not exactly Hope and CHange, but Barack needs the Penn vote...)

Alinsky - not sure what a socialist from the UK in the 1980s has to do with the Democratic vice presidential candidate in 2008, but I'm sure in your little world it has some relevance...

The GOP are presumably hoping that Palin "takes the fourth"

Alinsky4prez - you are from Canada - is there anything that Stephen Harper has said that could provide a flicker of hope for Sarah Palin?

I mean, Sarah lives right next to Canada so she must be a global expert on the country.

Sarah Palin needs all the help she can get considering she is the most unqualified vice-presidential nominee in American history, which is pretty scary, given McCain’s age and his history of cancer.

I mean, when she and mccain Palin stumbled out of the gate on arriving in Cedar Rapids, she told the audience that she was thrilled to be in “Grand Rapids,” the Michigan city where the campaign had just overnighted.

    Awesome!

I think the expectations are so low that she'll do better than expected, and if she's able to do better than expected I think the fallout won't be as acute. I remember people thinking that Bush was going to crash and burn in the debates and although he didn't win I think just being competitive was enough for him to save some votes. Palin will lose, and the Republicans will lose some votes, but I don't imagine a crash and burn scenario.

Sushi: "Sarah Palin can't put two thoughts together in a legible sentence"

You mean coherent sentence? That is a truly delusional, Sushi. I suggest you watch something other than Tina Fey's parodies of Palin ( which, I admit are pretty darn funny! ).

Nessie - Don't worry, there'll be plenty of laughter during the debate - Biden is going to be given equal time.

frontandcenter - you suprise me. Joe was inspired by Neil, as we all were.

NEIL KINNOCK at Welsh Labour Party conference May 1987:

"Why am I the first Kinnock in a thousand generations to be able to get to university? Was it because our predecessors were thick? Does anybody really think that they didn't get what we had because they didn't have the talent or the strength or the endurance or the commitment? Of course not. It was because there was no platform upon which they could stand"

JOE BIDEN IN Sept 1987 during his first presidential campaign:

"Why is it that Joe Biden is the first in his family ever to go a university? Why is it that my wife... is the first in her family to ever go to college? Is it because our fathers and mothers were not bright? ...Is it because they didn't work hard? My ancestors who worked in the coal mines of northeast Pennsylvania and would come after 12 hours and play football for four hours? It's because they didn't have a platform on which to stand."

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, in her speech, praised Joe Biden, calling him 'the full package." Now he's getting phone calls from Senator Larry Craig.

Sushi - "great to see you're taking the future of your country so seriously"

Only a true party pooper would say that.

As you know, they've come out with a Sarah Palin action figure. Now the Democrats have come out with a Joe Biden action figure. It talks and talks and talks. You just can't get the thing to shut up.

Actually, Joe Biden's looking pretty good. In fact, Joe's popularity's gone from 1% to 2% last week to 3% today. At this rate he could win the nomination by the year 2032.

So what exactly is the strong point of The Sarah Palin?

Does she have any besides shrieking?

  • 0

    Betzee

This debate will occur at the end of a two-week period where the modern conservative movement essentially unraveled. The party rebelled against its president on an issue of central ideological importance: the role of government in the market.

Heading the ticket is an old guy, who's reversed himself to endorse millions of dollars in tax cuts as the national debt tops ten trillion, while denouncing earmarks that break down to, for example, a couple million to a specific university to study the DNA of polar bears.

Sarah Palin isn't strong enough to put humpty-dumpty back together.

Sushi - For one thing, she could whip you in a game of one-on-one basketball.

In addition to that she's a wonderful person with strong character and good judgement.

    SushiSake3

Sarge - "Sushi - For one thing, she could whip you in a game of one-on-one basketball."

Even if she could, does that qualify her to be VP?

"In addition to that she's a wonderful person with strong character and good judgement."

No. That's just what the campaign of **The Sarah Palin **has told you to say.

And don't get me started on 'good judgment'...... :-)

  • 0

    Sarge

Sushi - Also, she doesn't shriek. She enunciates with flair.

    OK, now for some fun...

Not only is she young, they're saying that she's the prettiest candidate for Vice President since John Edwards.

Interviewer: Governor Palin, were you surprised when John McCain chose you as his running mate?

Palin: Yes, very. I had never even met him in person before I agreed to be his VP candidate.

Interviewer: What were your first words to him when you finally met on the campaign trail?

Palin: Get your hands off me.

Well, I think she's kind of hot - which can't be said about anyone else we've ever had running. Not a brain trust I shoudln't think, but having to look at her on the big screen rather than some wrinkly old guy is always a plus. I think that's why the liberal female crowd hate her so; she's better looking than most of 'em.

Everyone goes on about why McCain chose Palin - which is a good question for many obvious reasons - but why did Obama choose Biden? The man is an idiot. I wish I could find the quote, but he was at some event where he was cajoling one of the attendees to "stand up and take a bow for all the work they've done" - well, the person he was asking to 'stand up' was in a wheelchair. Priceless.

Tiger - I think McCain chose Palin for the following reasons, not necessarily in any order:

He wanted to shake up his campaign.

He thinks Palin can help him get elected. ( she obviously has the support of many women and conservatives )

He wanted to make history by choosing the first female vice president.

He admires her and thinks she would make a great partner in the White House.

    He has confidence in her.

She's going to make Obama realize he made the wrong VP choice tomorrow night.

  • 0

    Sarge

Actually, Obama already knows he made the wrong VP choice, but tomorrow night Palin's going to confirm it.

  • 0

    frontandcentre

Sarge: "He thinks Palin can help him get elected"

    • which reflects the judgement of a man not suited to lead the USA, plainly.
  • 0

    Sarge

frontandcentre - That's only one of the reasons McCain picked Palin. And I'd bet a month's salary that every presidential candidate in history picked his running mate at least in part because that would help him get elected. Even Obama thought that until McCain picked Palin.

Biden's hope of becoming VP may well be over in 48 hours...
