Speaking of world leaders and Palin... Australia's K Rudd PM appeared on a local comedian's show on Sunday where they grilled him about which potential US leader he preferred. He rightly stated that it was up to the USA people to choose their leader and he was looking forward to working with either of them. Then something about Palin came up...he literally grinned and said the cryptic "I like moose". Look, even other world leaders can't take her seriously!
But having read this article, I would be looking forward to her political debate....
stan - Rudd grinned because he's looking foward to meet Palin when she becomes the vice president. In fact, he's probably looking foward to see her age in office.
I dont know why political arguements cant be about real politics. If Palin doesnt want a bunch of press asking questions that is her choice, if you think its a dodge then its your opinion that it is. It doesnt make her less fit to be a VP because she is in a private meeting trying to gain knowledge and doesnt want to get distracted by the press and the strange questions they keep asking her.
If she isnt ready to be in a position of Vp she can join all those others before her that didnt have the skills either.
When she has her debate people will see her for what she says without a telepromter given her the words. She will either come out of the debate looking like a cat ran over, or king of the hill... I dont see a middle area for her.
Until then I see those who are using catch phrases and sound bits and personal opinions to describe a person they really dont know anything about except what has been feed to them by one extreme or the other.
Locking Nippon5's comments back to the topic, it goes back to Palin's qualifications.
The same people who sold the American people on the qualifications of the disaster that is George W. Bush -- MBA and all -- are now trying to tell people that Sarah Palin is every bit as qualified. These people have as much expertise to judge a hog-calling contest as they do leaders for the nation.
It's not about the personal foibles of the people involved. It's about the judgment of the folks who want to pretend that Bush isn't the unmitigated disaster he has been. And who try to foist on intelligent people the ridiculous notion that Sarah Palin is in a league with Margaret Thatcher at her prime.
If we were waiting for perfect humans to put into office we'd still be waiting a long time with anarchy ruling the day. I prefer not to worry too much about what the history is but what good they do while in and hopefully it will outweigh the bad they do.
So who is perfect? Or am I just blinded by Bush's afterglow?
If we were waiting for perfect humans to put into office we'd still be waiting a long time with anarchy ruling the day.
We could wait for the perfect car too. But that doesn't mean there isn't a way to tell quality models from outright lemons. Using that analogy, the selling pitch for Bush could have been: "He's been in the shop so many times, he's just got to be a quality car!"
All the warning signs were ignored -- Arbusto, Harken Oil, arrogance, total lack of intellectual curiosity. And likewise, the warning signs about Palin are being ignored too. I will agree, she does have a decent paint job.
It seems that Palin isn't the only one scared of real interation with people, where she actually has to talk about issues. McCain is running scared too.
AP reports
Republican presidential nominee John McCain challenged rival Barack Obama on Wednesday to suspend their heated campaign, postpone Friday's debate and work together to deal with the nation's financial troubles.
Oh yeah like now all of the sudden both of their views are so important he can't meet his obligation to give the voters the truth on issues. If their views are that important there is no reason he can't do both. The next president (not McCain) will have a lot more on his plate at any given time then then a debate and drafting legislation. Man up McCain! Step up to the plate! All that bragging on here by the NeoCons who claimed how he will wipe the floor with Obama.
This is just a thinly veiled excuse to avoid a confrontation with the highly skilled Obama. Looks like the Republicans did their homework and found out McCain is no match for Obama.
If McCain gets his wish and delays the debates I want cameras on him every minutes he speaks. I want transcripts of his words. Let the American people judge the content of his input. But there will be no content just campaign rhetoric. He can't win over the American people with serious discussions on the bailout plan so he will produce soundbites. That is his intention; he is a scoundrel.

You post was just a hate message --- Bush might be a moron or an idiot, but he did serve as a governor of Texas for 8 years, campaigned with his father, and meet lots of Political leaders. Your statement was out of anger and not intelligent in the least.
My statement was who you have met does not make you a great leader nor is it an acurate measurment of how well they will do in office. period..
Im not on either side Im just pointing out the fact you cant judge anyone based on if they meet a world leader or not.
Have any of you meet world leaders and been in a press meeting??? But you all seem to judge her political ability on this
OK, so firstly as far as I know, none of us are running for the vice presidency. To attempt to lessen the impact of her lack of experience simply because we don't have it is intellectually dishonest. Secondly, the only reason that her political ability is being judged based on this is that she has no other record in foreign policy. She has not made major or memorable statements on international issues, except on the visibility of Russia, and has never had any kind of education or job experience that relates to dealing with the world. The fact that the media is implying that she gains experience by having short chats with Kissinger and Karzai simply re-enforces the fact that she knows absolutely nothing about what is most likely the second most important issue in the election.
Thirdly, if a politician wishes to be the most powerful person in the world, they must be able to deal with stress. Should a confrontation with a nuclear power occur, the stress of even a presidential campaign will pale in comparison with what the leader will go through, and US nuclear strategy is based on the assumption of clear-headed leadership. If Palin is to be VP, despite her inexperience, the one thing that is absolutely necessary is for her to be able to keep a cool head. So far she has not demonstrated this ability under pressure because no pressure can be brought to bear on her. McCain, Obama and Biden all have had to deal with pressure in the public spotlight, and all have been able to deal with it.

So did Kennedy have experience dealing with Russians on Nuclear Diplomacy before taking office? Think about it!

Did Carter have any experience of dealing with Iranian revolutionaries before taking office? Better think about that, too!
