Noriega was a scapegoat and should be freed. The US knew all along what he was up to but only bothered to go after him when he started offering resistance to US demands.

Umm. He WAS freed by the U.S. after he served his time. Then he was extradited by France. Now France has to decide whether to prosecute or release.

Everyone knows the CIA took part in the Drugs trade to raise money for illegal activities. Noriega was one of THEIR guys on the ground. Oh well!!

And when is France going to return the BILLIONS that Mobutu Sese Seko, Congo's long time despot (er dictator), left in its bank vaults?? The utter hypocrisy of the Frenchies. Perhaps Congo should indict some of their leaders for illegal & destabilizing activities that lead to the plunder of Congo's resources and millions dead. Again, Noriega was a patsy...a fall guy. I'm sure he did a lot of crap while in power...but his bosses in Washington didn't care back then.

Well, then he should get the book thrown at him for being stupid. When get it going good too easily, you need to keep in mind of when its going to end.

I'm sure if you look hard enough there is a conspiracy against this poor poor soul somewhere. It's always the CIA with people who can't back up a thing they say is common knowledge. Tough luck Noriega. You enjoyed the profits no matter who aided you in getting them so now you have to do the time. If France has laws against what you did and they can prove you did it then good luck with that POW status. Once a pusher always a pusher.

Noriega’s guilt or not is not the issue here. The fact that the US agreed to keep him in prison as a prisoner of war means they had no legal right to extradite him to France, send him back to Panama yes, but not France. The US kept him in prison for two years longer than his sentence while he fought extradition to France which under the circumstances of his arrest was probably illegal too. As a head of state the US illegally “kidnapped” him from Panama so it is possible to argue that he was from the start illegally held in the US. Noriega is not by any reasoning a good guy, but if the US expect their own people to be treated with respect and within the law they need to be careful how they treat others, this ghost might well come back to haunt them.
