Its a problem, and should be properly investigated. However, RIF chips in passports is a more serious concern. The older RIF chips in American passports can be read by anyone within 10 meters and even the new ones rolling out soon with PIN numbers and build in shielding have serious security problems that are not being addressed.

Of course it's more widespread than thought. Stuff like this is like finding a cockroach. For every 1 you see, there are 100 you don't.

proxy - get used to it, the business of RFID is booming - they're inserting them everywhere, ID cards, Driver's Licenses, passports, your Suica & Pasmo card, there's talk of putting them in license plates on cars so you will be able to be tracked anywhere you are (once they set up RFID readers on the sides of the roads). It's not about 'security' for you, it's about control over you...
