Which side is overkill here? PETA really should go one step at a time. People cannot even respect cows, pigs and chickens. As soon as you start talking about flies, you can kiss your would-be audience good-bye.

There is no reason for Obama to be even swatting flys when he has "handlers." -but he is not Hindu/Buddist either. These flys need to learn to bother the Hindus/Buddists where they are in relative safety.

I believe it is the quality of his "handlers" that needs the upgrade. -How do they expect to protect the President when they have difficulty with flys?

Hmm, what if it was a Bot fly? Would PETA be against it being swatted if it landed on their skin and laid its eggs in their bodies? While I'm against needless animal cruelty, I'm not against killing animals if they're being used to feed people, or if they are a serious threat to human beings lives.

It would have been OK if Obama had swatted the fly and then popped it in his mouth.

It could have been an anthrax-laced fly sent by Al Quaeda. Where were the Secret Service who are supposed to protect our President? They should have taken it down with deadly force. Or at least sent a subtle warning across the teleprompter.

It could have been a nanotech controlled "bug" with wings, sent by Moussad.

oh for pete's sake... It was a great interview. Obama makes an excellent decisive swat, then asks for the next question. Just let him get to work already.

And this group of clowns expect to be treated as a serious animal rights group? Remember folks, this is the same bunch whose employees were caught dumpstering strays they had killed themselves.

Animal rights (not insect rights) is a serious topic. Unfortunately, putting PETA and serious in the same sentence is moronic. Please support toe ASPA, the RSPCA and other similar organizations in your country, however, recognize PETA for what they are, a joke.

Overkill, so to speak. I try and respect even the smallest little life forms, but if I feel a mosquito sucking away on my arm or something it gets swatted.

PETA are the ones who "humanely" put down animals that they won't let the goverments do... These hypocrites care about a fly?

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, get a life! Ethics are situational, especially for government, and this fly was treated quite ethically in this situation. In fact, I think its the first presidential action I can actually agree with Obama taking. Now if he could have just said something metaphorical about Osama or North Korea as he "got the sucker", it would have been all the better. Ron Reagan woulda.

“Now, where were we?” Evolution did not favor the fly's poor reflexes in this case. However, natural selection may not favor Obama either if he doesn't stop the interview to wash the fly smoosh off his hands next time.

Deputy press secretary Josh Earnest said the White House has no comment on the matter.

Most sensible passage in the whole story. PETA thrive on attention while being short of experience regarding the actual protection of animals. They aint the ASPCA. Indeed, somethings tells me that they are willing to protest anything if it means they get in the press.

    Molenir

Hey, something I can agree with the President on. Swatting flies. And once again, PETA proves, that there is nothing wrong with People Eating Tasty Animals.

  • 0

Jeez. Was the fly wearing a flag-pin?

  • 0

Ethical treatment of animals. Animals. I never included flies in that group. I suppose the PETA have a passage in their chapter on the treatment of flies? Groan . . . Perhaps we shouldn't comment on this as this organisation (?) like someone pointed out, thrives on attention. But what a bunch of idiots.

I love how PETA always manages to turn animal rights into a joke. Thanks, PETA, for setting the movement back another 20 years with this fly nonsense. As an animal lover, thanks a lot.

PETA is pissed about a fly being killed. But they support a woman's "right to choose". What hypocrites.

The group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals wants the flyswatter in chief to try taking a more humane attitude the next time he’s bedeviled by a fly in the White House.

Sorry but PETA members are a bit nutz sometimes. I do not mind if they try to save animals. But the moment they try to save a fly, F that. They do not live in Japan, the land of the killer horse flies.

So pass the can and aim, it's the rainy season and the deadly KA are out in force so kill'em all let PETA sort'em out later!!.

From the PETA home page -

Believe it or not, we've actually been contacted by multiple media outlets wanting to know PETA's official response to the executive insect execution. In a nutshell, our position is this: He isn't the Buddha, he's a human being, and human beings have a long way to go before they think before they act.

It looks like the ones asking the questions are as nutty as the ones giving the answers. Or as my Dad used to say, 'Ask a stupid question, get a stupid answer.'

PETA is pissed about a fly being killed. But they support a woman's "right to choose".

Where did you get that from? Again from the PETA home page -

PETA does not have a position on the abortion issue, because our focus as an organization is the alleviation of the suffering inflicted on nonhuman animals. There are people on both sides of the abortion issue in the animal rights movement, just as there are people on both sides of animal rights issues in the pro-life movement. And just as the pro-life movement has no official position on animal rights, neither does the animal rights movement have an official position on abortion.

Swatting a fly folks not say skinning a live mink or anything. These people undermine their cause by doing crazy sh*t like this. No one can take PETA seriously because they are so over the top.

There are many other more important compassion issues to discuss about.

Now this news is having so much fame via airtime on media channels/satellite TVs/JT.

I've seen a lot of people ragging on PETA here. We need to remember, they also get some darn good looking ladies to walk around naked to protest wearing furs.

Any organization that promotes eye candy can't be ALL bad.

Fight the Smears! How dare they attack our president, the World President! Loyal Obama youth need to go after PETA! Use your community organizing skills - intimidate them, accuse them of racism, get "in their faces," remember Alinsky's rules and advice:threaten, ridicule, use aggression, constant pressure, use the goodness of people against them.
