How much is this going to cost the American taxpayer?

Say this coming from a mile away. China, your turn.

If that volcano in the Philippines blows again after the US builds a new base, it would cost billions of US dollars to clean it up. Bad idea, build the base elsewhere or how about not building one or more overseas and spend those/my tax dollars at home fixing the bridges and roads across the USA. No stop that idea, that would be unamerican to want to fix america first instead of sticking our noses in another country's business.

@Hawkeye

Alas, we have a constitution that gives the president broad discretionary powers in matters of international relations, and severely limits his power over internal affairs.

Wait a minute. First the Phillipines booted out the U.S. military and now they are throwing out the red carpet for the U.S. military to come back. Maybe this is because they wanted the U.S. military to push back against China for them but the U.S. kept saying there wasn't any place to push back from anymore because there weren't any U.S. bases in the Phillipine. It probably makes sound geo-political sense for the U.S. military to return and maintain bases there, but I'm also askin' the same thing as Kapuna above: "How much is this going to cost the American taxpayer?" If the U.S. does goes back, it'd better be for cheap. BTW, have you noticed how the anti-U.S. bases crowd has died down here in Japan? Why? Because as much trouble as it is playing host for some (Not all!) rude American soldiers running around amok, it's better that they're here than not here for obvious national security reasons. Not sayin' it's right or OK, but it's pretty true.

This is good news for the bars around Subic Bay.
