    An aviation 'expert' was saying that 727 engines were updated and deliberately overpowered so that in the event of one engine failure the other can keep the plane aloft during take-off. This has made the plane extra difficult to keep straight even in normal conditions. He imagines that combined with the effects of a severe storm, it would be doubly hard to control the plane's yaw.

    This veering off the wrong way, could it have been the power of one engine sending him that way?

    You meant 737, right? Almost nobody uses the old 727 anymore, due to noise regulations.
