It would be interesting to know the religion of the vigilantes. PNG is largely Christian with some animism.

PNG is a stone-age society that suddenly finds itself thrown into the 21st century. It will take a long time to join the civilized world, if ever.

PNG is largely Christian with some animism. Like I said, it sounds a lot like HAITI.

It would be interesting to know the religion of the vigilantes. PNG is largely Christian with some animism.

"With them was a “glassman”—a man who claimed to have supernatural powers and who had identified the luckless women as sorcerers and claimed they were responsible for the child’s death."

While I have been a Catholic for a number of years now I am by no means an authority on the structure of christian churches...but I don't think that 'glassman' is part of the official structure of any denomination I'm aware of. Elbuda actually has a point, in countries where there is a strong animistic tradition with an induction of another larger religion you tend to see a blending into something completely different than the originals.

Believe it or not old fashioned voodoo is pretty much mixed in a bit with catholic superstitious practices since ye olde missionary days. The only good news is that they arrested a whole bunch of people that were contributing to this madness. Question is, will these people get it through their primitive way of "thinking" to comprehend that they're acting like complete monsters on the scales of humanity.

In Haiti, Voodoo, in Cuba Santeria, in Brazil, Canduble, in Mexico etc..brujeria, it is NOT that rare to have CHRISTIAN countries mix Christianity with the native religions, PNG is no exception. Scary, yes, but come on, they are in the middle of no where and they still shrink the heads of their enemies in parts of that country, so surprise, surprise??

So good to see that good old fashioned common sense is alive and well world wide....... wait...... witches? Burning witches? Let me rephrase.

So sad to see that people are as daft as when they first came down from the trees. But then again between witch burning and recent right wing behavior world wide, maybe we have even slipped a rung or two on the common sense ladder.
