What an absolutely disgusting story, made even worse by the fact that the idiot who killed the dogs then gets compensation for his actions. One could only hope he suffers for a long time remembering what he did to the wonderful animals.

I agree Adam. Totally sick. I'm sure the other companies would have taken free dogs. To kill that many healthy dogs is just a waste. I couldn't do it and I wouldn't do it anyway even if ordered.

an appalling story to say the least. Notice also the weasel words from the company spokesmen. Adoption / transfer what have you should have been arranged with a local humane society. If a cull was arranged, then the proper authorities should have been involved.
As for Canada's natural resources, Americans buy it up just fine. (That includes music). Natural resources have nothing to do with stupid people making stupid decisions.

Very disturbing.

Would gassing them have been any better? Or perhaps letting them loose in the wild, where they would die of starvation? Not a lot of options. And not much different than the bolt gun to the brain that is used to kill cattle for your dinner. Certainly less cruel than the way animals are killed for Kosher or Halal meat.

Bebert61 ,
Yes gassing or a bolt gun to the head would be a much better alternative to an incompetent tool with a shotgun and knife. Better alternatives also would have been lethal injection (not overly expensive) or adoption program but that takes time and money. An idiot with a gun and knife is a lot cheaper but a lot more cruel. This guy need to be charged and bought to trial and so does his employer

If you have the inkling to make money from owning these animals you should also have a plan to dispose of them if business doesn't go your way and I don't mean killing them. There are plenty of northern communities that would have loved to have them I'm sure. This is pure irresponsibility on the company's part.

Not often I agree with mikehuntez, but I'm with him on this. These are living animals, Man's best friend, not a bunch of office furniture that you can just dispose of when you no longer need them. Pure irresponsibility and inhumanity.
Berbert61 - You seriously believe that having a dog running around with its “face blown off and an eye hanging out” is no worse than what goes on in abattoirs?
'he did everything he could finding homes for them, having them adopted, every which way that he could' sez the idiot's lawyer, yet no other companies in the area were asked to take any dogs? Sounds like the idiot with a gun and a knife is not merely an idiot but a lying idiot. And he gets compensation???? Let him get post-traumatic treatment from inside a jail cell.

sf2k,
Yes they do cuz it
s all thats left in the once great land. Socially Canada is asleep at the wheel which is what lead to this situation and nothing being done about it for months.0

Sweet lord! What an awful story. I have no doubt the idiot that slaughtered these dogs is suffering PTSD, and rightly so! There is NO WAY he needed to kill them all... no way at all. If he stated that that was his intention if people didn't take them off his hands they would have been gone, probably even at the other people's expense, before he could blink.
I agree that what's even more disgusting is that the guy was COMPENSATED for it! I don't know if the company should face charges for compensating him, but at the very least they should be penalized in some way. As for the person who slaughtered the dogs... hope he's locked up for a good stint.

Really a very sad and needless incident. My sister works with an adoption group in LA, they probably could have done a lot to help. I doubt that the company did a lot to find the dogs new homes despite their protests that they tried. Pathetic.
