Tax-payers money being blown for a damned good cause at a time of economic opulence.

Go guy's!! Justice must be served on the grasshoppers!!

There aren't bigger and badder crimes then to go on a marijuana junket and start arresting folks. < :-)

“I find it amazing the justification is they don’t want to treat him any differently just because he is a celebrity, and he is being treated far differently than any other Joe Blow who might have smoked marijuana four or five months ago.”

My thoughts exactly when I read the headline. Looks like they are going out of their way to hound Phelps.

Maybe some jerk of a DA or sheriff is trying to get famous? I hope this blows up the faces of these "authorities" in S.C. Idiots.

This is friggin' pathetic. Show me ONE example besides this where the police go above and beyond to penalize someone for smoking a bong.... dealers, I can see it, but half or more of the cops themselves have definitely lit up at some point, so what the hell?? the poor kid is going to be destroyed... until the Olympics roll around again and they may want him back.

I actually found myself liking/respecting Phelps much more than when he was in the games. He should counter-sue for harassment. Ridiculous.

    Remember the old one

    "Dude your getting a cell".

Um isnt smoking and packing two different things, Im sure he's smart enough not to pack his stash around, and or maybe he isnt a regular user just wanted a hit for the evening.

Is there no authority above the sheriff that can say leave it? There is nothing more than a photo that “might” show Phelps smoking marijuana, but then again might not. I thought US law was based on British case law & if so then all everybody needs do is say nothing, they cannot be forced to incriminate themselves so can stay silent. Simply put, there is no case here unless somebody talks.

Oh, let's crusify Phelps for doing what most people have done at one time in their life. Blame the dumbass who took the pic and then released it. Michael Phelps was being a kid. < :-)

Hey maybe after they "make" a case they could go for the max 20 years for a picture. Oh yeah American justice, got to love it. This is the biggest waste of public tax money. This bunch of cops and politicians should be the ones investigated for wasting so much time and resource.

They should arrest Phelps, whose drug use is making him a drain on society and keeping him from his full potential as a Faux News announcer.

Or maybe they should let him off the hookah.
