Jim Webb notwithstanding (he was long a Republican and worked in the Reagan administration), this phenomenon can be blamed on two things: Citizens United and the "professional politician (not!)", both mostly Republican things.

Citizens United has allowed candidates to raise huge sums of money that cannot be "directly" spent on their campaign but can keep them afloat with (wink-win) "public awareness" advertising. Jeb! is in such big trouble with fundraising for his campaign that he's now flying commercial, but the super-PACs aligned to him are able to continue blanketing the airwaves of those unfortunate early-voting states. Thus flushed with funds, the winnowing that used to occur no longer does.

The above explains the how, but the why is more important. Seriously, who in the GOP field has even a slim chance of being nominated, much less succeeding in the general election? They continue because, like Huckabee, Palin, Gingrich and so many others, their livelihood derives from being pseudo-important. Talk shows, books, product endorsements: If you don't put yourself out on the public stage now and then, your import, along with your income, drops precipitously. So on they trudge with nary a hope of victory but with dollar signs in their eyes.

How some still fall for this chicanery is quite demoralizing.

Vote NO ONE in 2016! They are ALL ladies' sanitary cleansing dispenser pouches.

They're getting Trumped.

I would love to see Trump win the Presidency. because I feel he will be lucky to last 6 months before he run out of office. If I was a betting man I would bet that Trump would not last as long the last 3 Australia PM the longest being 2 years and 9 months.

They're not dropping out because they know its just a game of musical chairs. Trump may be on top now, but it will someone else in a couple of months, and then someone else after that. Its not important who's leading the polls now, its important who's leading in the polls at the end of the primaries.

Can anyone spell ridiculous ?

President Trump. Better get used to the sound of that, as awful as it may sound.

I would love to see a GOP nomination of Trump for two reasons: it would demonstrate the absolute bankruptcy of the party, and it would guarantee a Democratic victory. Somehow, I sense the nihilistic Trump feels the same. The last thing he wants to do is to act responsible for four years.

Man. I just wish Americans would stop throwing their votes at front-runners and instead, think for their damned selves who is best for once.

"America’s rush to war must be constantly challenged"

This premisemustbe constantly challenged. America does not rush to war. Heck, has there been any American attacks on North Korea or France? No!

Too bad Jim is gone. He is one of the few in Washington who understands a current issue of Okinawa. This is a loss for Japan. So do you hear if VP Baiden is running in the race?

Trump ain't going anywhere anytime soon. There's a reason why 1/3 of the Republican party likes him. It is because he speaks to their rage.

They hate Obama; Trump goes birther. And rises in the polls.

They hate Mexicans and other ferners; Trump calls Mexicans rapists and murderers. And rises in the polls.

They hate the Republican establishment (who has been playing them for fools for years)' Trump calls McCain a looser. And rises in the polls to first place.

Trump has been solidly in the lead for months now. Months. The 1/3 of the Republican party - who is enraged, who lives off paranoid right wing radio and b.s. nativist claptrap from Fox Noise, who wants "their country back, and who have a very serious problem with Madison -- is insane. They do not want compromise. They want blood, bluster, and bombs.

And Trump delivers it to them. In spades.

What a rediculas post above! Clearly an uninformed point of view. Written just a a left wing dingbat would write it. It must be direct from MSNBC.

Trump said nothing of the birth certificate.

Trump is not entirely wrong with the supposed law abiding Central Americans.

And the left loves Bernie Sanders, well in a perfect world, yes. The reality is fiscal limits dictate possible solutions. Bernie has poor at best revenue generation ideas yet many are too blind to see it. The past 7 years are enough to convince thinking people. Obama x5 = Bernie Sanders.

The democrats seem to think we all have no responsibilities or self reliance. We humans need support and hard workers provide for the drunks, druggies and lazy and it perfectly okay! Sounds like drone makers to me.

Trump is the protest vote.

Trump is going to get plenty of moderate to liberal voters of both parties. He isn't that conservative at the end of the day.
