“Let us treat others with the same passion and compassion with which we want to be treated,” he said. “Let us seek for others the same possibilities which we seek for ourselves.”— Pope Francis

While Papa articulated the simplicity of "do on to others" the 'gop-tea' remains resolute in its prejudice, greed and condemnation of everything the Holy Father symbolizes. In the coming months of the Rump campaign the observer will feast on the revilement of the poor, elderly, foreigner and current whipping boy, the faith of Islam.

Gods bless this gentle beautiful man in his plea for compassion. How different the world might have been had the wars of AWOL not consumed the lives, wealth and compassion of millions of Americans. Pope Francis might well have been congratulating America on moral clarity instead of reminding her to help the poor.

One clear contradiction the Pope and his church need to address is the call for limiting human induced climate change, the moral stand against the use of contraceptives, as proclaimed in the encyclical letter Humanae Vitae (Latin, "Human Life") and against inequality.

Humans, their excessive meat consumption and dependence on fossil fuels for all their life proliferating machines have become the most destructive parasite on the planet. The limited carrying capacity of the earth clearly indicates that everyone cannot live and consume like well-off people from wealthy nations. So the choice is 1) far fewer people with today's consumptive lifestyle, not much more than the present population with most people living as humbly as the poor, or some kind of mix, with still huge numbers in poverty.

clean potable water is much more an issue than is climate change. No mentions of that, no money to be made on either side of the argument. Parts of western US see temporary shortages from time to time while hollywoods remains clueless. Yet those upstanding phanatics preach "climate change", what skin do they have in the game?

No clean water, no crops. No clean potable water, death in numbers unseen in history.

The Koch's make money similar to George Sorros does with less controvercial means.

Humans . . . have become the most destructive parasite on the planet. - comments

While the imagery is effective and stimulating the human is not a parasite. Setting the goal that all should live as the poor do is contrary to human ingenuity.

It would be nicer to imagine that all could live well and healthy lives if the concentration of wealth's self perpetuation weren't so destructive. It is the immoral greed of the wealthy that comprises the body and sprit of the parasite on humanity, not the nature of humanity in and of its self.

It's hilarious how wingnuts think the Pope should only talk about things important to them like abortion. They cherry pick the Pope the same way they cherry pick the Bible and the Constitution. Republicans simply have no use for religion, except when used to subjugate women and deny reproductive choice.

I like the way he suggests combating poverty while dismissing two of the greatest weapons to combat it: contraception and abortion.

And I will never get this sanctity of marriage nonsense. If you judge your own marriage by the marriage others, that is your pathetic and small-minded problem, not mine or anybody else's.

Isn't it obvious that if your marriage doesn't match our marriage your marriage defaces our marriage and as a result our opinion about our marriage must set about preventing your marriage to keep the immaculate quality of our marriage in tact? What the bejezsus is wrong with all you liberals? 'Hey, hey you, get off of my marriage cloud' - Mick Jagger

'he suggests combating poverty while dismissing two of the greatest weapons to combat it: contraception and abortion.'

Yes. I'm afraid yet again the Catholic Church is taking a good game. This pope more than others likes to make noble statements ( I'm not sure how effective these are - the example of the rightists on this site telling him to basically shut up may be an indicator of the pope preaching to the choir ). As you mentioned, birth control is a powerful weapon in the fight against poverty and the use of condoms is also a powerful weapon in the fight against HIV.

I honestly don't know how members of this organization sleep at night knowing their organization's ban on condoms contributes to such appalling misery to millions.

What has this pope actually done to deserve the gush I read about ( I'll give you the Vatican taking in a few refugees )? Talking in a different tone to his predecessor? Stressing different things?

What has this pope actually done to deserve the gush I read about

@Jimizo While the core beliefs remain intact, under him the Vatican has backed off on condoms and gay marriage which is definitely a positive step. It opens the door to a much needed rethink of their ideologies.

Other than that, I suppose he reminds me of Obama. As you put it: the Catholic Church is talking a good game.

Not only is it possible to walk and chew gum simultaneously, the former is closely related to the latter.

As the Pope might say: There are none so blind as those who will not see.

Does that apply to the Pope as well?

As others have observed: The campaign of lies and feigned ignorance among the 'gop-tea' has caused more delay and waste of tax payer dollars than any other single force in American politics at a cost to the environment that has become a global disaster.

$18 Trillion over the last 7 years, not a smidgeon of waste. Why is it, you fail to address the poverty and the despair and degradation the Democratic Party has wrought on the people. So you're essentially saying that, the climate comes before the people? No wonder Trump is destroying the Dems.

The annual awards for really dumb questions are coming up. We're submitting yours

You libs are then in front of the line.

A fair point but I'm not really sure what 'backed off' actually means in practical terms here. This organization has seen the scourge of AIDS cause shocking misery, suffering and poverty for decades. I think I can be excused for not gushing about an organization for possibly inching towards a 'rethink' of this issue. Perhaps the next pope won't be so 'progressive'.

He's got the common touch and the winning smile but I don't see much more than a good PR man here. Given that many Catholcs regard him a a progressive at the head of a group of conservative religious bureaucrats, the Vatican seriously needs a good PR man.

I'll be the first to gush when he does something practical to ease the suffering of others.

The pope should say 2 things:

be kind to each other

be kind to the planet

and I suppose ... to love god, so 3 things.

Anything after that is politics to maintain power and money. Think about all the money spent on fancy churches that could/should have been used to help humans.

America loves legal immigrants. People who jump the fence, jump the line, and abuse USA laws shouldn't be here and deserve to be treated as criminals. They ARE criminals.

Legal immigrants who wait in the line, get to the USA following the rules, are most welcome!

I did not say "the human IS a parasite". I said we have become a destructive parasite, in that our way of life today is destroying the host. In the past, our numbers, our energy, our level of technology and our narratives limited on a global scale what might be a propensity to mimetic desire and over-exploitation. The greed of the wealthy as a cause... OK, I'll go along with that, and that many others have bought into or been duped into their ideology of commodified self-aggrandizement and worth.

Setting the goal that all should live as the poor do is contrary to human ingenuity.

I still hold some belief that we can create a far less destructive and far more democratic energy system and we can ease poverty, but will we get there before millions die because of climate change and related natural disasters and wars? Not unless we purposefully share and reduce a whole lot and what will provide enough impetus for people to willingly give up many of their comforts?

the climate comes before the people?

Ultimately, yes. Environment determines life. Period. Whether you are a frog or a person.

We are part of an ecosystem.

No wonder Trump is destroying the Dems.

Really? Show me the data.

Trump is destroying the GOP. He's saying the outrageous nonsense that that other candidates are afraid to. The crap that forms the heart and soul of the base. And most Americans know where it's really at.

Really? Show me the data.

All you have to do is see that Trump is not only destroying the GOP, but he's also destroying Hillary, not to mention, she's doing a bang up job of that herself, but you have to be an idiot, if you think she will come close to anything that resembles a win and with each passing day, this email scandal of hers just keeps on growing.

Trump is destroying the GOP. He's saying the outrageous nonsense that that other candidates are afraid to.

You mean, the truth? As they say, the truth shall set you free.

The crap that forms the heart and soul of the base. And most Americans know where it's really at.

So that's why the DNC is struggling and standing in the stores with a giant order of NoDoz for their constituents during the upcoming debates? They're definitely going to need them. 7 years of progressive theocracy is slowing coming to an end.
