This is a good thing. It won't stop the real haters. Still, it is a good thing.

Great step forward. He should have taken advantage of this situation to also make a statement that not all Islamists are terrorists.

Jesus was a Jewish Rabbi. Just a mortal man. At least he was selected by his own for an untimely death, rather than by other religious fanatics.

Agree this is positive. Just one question -- Since this position of the Pope's is contained in his book, does this make it official church doctrine, or just his opinion? I'm Catholic, and I'm not sure.

Jesus was a Jewish Rabbi. Just a mortal man." I've heard Mohammad was too.. So, now that the Catholics are stepping up, what's up with the issue between Islam and Jews?

    Good move.

As for the bad feelings between the jewish and muslims, lets just say they were not very gentle to each other over the millenia even before Jesus. With both sides wiping out each other tribes and of course religion was the excuse to do it.

Were there Muslims before Jesus? Me think not.

“Holocaust survivors know only too well how the centuries-long charge of ‘Christ killer’ against the Jews created a poisonous climate of hate that was the foundation of anti-Semitic persecution whose ultimate expression was realized in the Holocaust,”

I don't think the "Christ killer" charge was used by the Nazis as an excuse/reason to carry out the holocaust. And I wonder how much it was used in previous persecutions.

sabiwabi-- For the Nazis in particular, there were a ton of awful reasons for their so called ethnic cleasing, but for centuries the "Christ killer" charge was always at least one of the reasons for persecuting them, especially from "Christians".

Maybe they didn't call themselves Muslims at the time, but historically speaking the roots of Islam started all the way back with Abraham, correct? So that would be before Jesus. And they didn't get along back then either.
