Pope launches review of Church teaching on family, marriage

Lift the ban on condoms and start saving lives. If saving lives is too much to ask, make sure that members of your church stop making preposterous comments about condoms being ineffective against HIV or actually being a cause of it.

“The wounds have to be treated with mercy. The Church is a mother, not a customs office, coldly checking who is within the rules,” he has said, in an allusion to the many divorced people, cohabiting couples and single mothers within the ranks of the Church.

Wow, what a welcome change. I for one am a divorced Catholic who didn't actually practice his faith while he was married, but found the church again after divorce while in Japan, raised two kids as a single dad, and am a much better person and Christian today than I ever was when I was living within the "rules". Great to see we finally have a Pope who sees people for who thye are, not graded against some no-longer-relevant scorecard.

I'm not Catholic, but I'm glad that the Church hierarchy is beginning to adopt more modern views.

I don't believe in god, but its always amazed me at just how primitive the catholic church is, time to creep closer to the present start doing more right than keeping its collective heads in the sand!

Time for many things, but I doubt we will see Catholic priest say, getting MARRIED in our life times. I was born and raised a Catholic and always DOUBTED the teachings, from day one! Condoms are evil?? Every sperm is sacred (Monty Python making fun of his Catholic amigos) these priests pretending they are SUPERIOR to lay believers because they DO NOT MARRY?? What a bunch of crap! How many Churches in EUROPE have the dead bodies of NUNS and PREGNANT NUNS shoved into the walls, look up these documentaries on YOUTUBE etc..we are NOT supposed to even THINK about SEX?? More BS! Oooh! You get real horny and want to slap the monkey or choke the chicken MORE SINS!! Thank GOD I am a BUDDHIST! But if you wanna live feeling guilty about almost everything, who am I to stop those guilt lovers. Go right ahead and live your life feeling inferior to priests etc..and that is NOT even touching the homosexual child molesting scandals in the Catholic Church!
