HeyLars
I have no sympathy for the church, but I do understand their plight. In an age where their influence is waning, reports of sex abuse will lose them more influence than trying to cover them up. If I believed the church was vital to humanity, like believers do, I too might have supported the cover-up. After all, how can the suffering of a handful compare to ensuring the word of God gets out? Compare it to the crucifiction of Christ and you can see that earthly suffering takes a back seat to ensuring Christianity marches on.
But like I say, I have no sympathy. I am glad to see church influence sinking, I just wish the reasons were more rational. This way is like blaming the barrel for a few rotten apples, and the barrel, knowing it would get blamed anyway, hid those apples. Not surprising. And its not like this sort of abuse is actually new or unique to the church either. But while we blame individual day care centers, schools and orphanages, one parish stains the church all the way up to the Vatican. One parish taints all of Christianiy in other words.

I think that all these criminal cases prove that the knowledge of God's words doesn't make you a better person, -if we consider Jesus as God-.

Well, I'm sure Canadians will definitely remember Mount Cashel in Newfoundland, and the following failed cover up...
The cases I remember most were in Australia, Canada, Argentina, Ireland, The U.S, The Philippines, Germany and the Vatican. Nothing more should be expected from those nice folks who brought us the Inquisition.
What will the Pope do, blame it on the molested kids? I vote for his resignation!
The way I figure it, religion has no place in a peaceful world.
My favorite quotes: "I am surrounded by priests who repeat incessantly that their kingdom is not of this world, and yet they lay their hands on everything they can get." -- Napoleon Bonaparte
I contend that we are both atheists. I just believe in one fewer god than you do. When you understand why you dismiss all the other possible gods, you will understand why I dismiss yours. ~ Stephen Roberts

LIBERTAS
Dr. Martin Luther, "To the Christian nobility of the German nation." Wittenberg, 1521.
Imposed celibacy is one of those laws, enforced with the burning of priests' wives lest they lay claim to church property for their inheritance. As with most things papal, done purely for greed and avarice. Same today.
