I am not happy at all to see these problems leading up to the Olympics. I would like to see a great competition of the worlds best athletes, and keep the influence of politics to a minimum. Regrettably, this is not possible in the world, or so it seems. Regardless, economic necessity, or what is perceived to be such, will take precedence in the minds of most countries leaders around the world, and preclude any condemnation of China`s policy towards Tibet and a lot of other issues.

The escalating violent protests will eventually put a stop to the Olympics, and won't help Tibetans a bit. Certainly the Chinese government will suffer economically, but the world will have lost a traditional worldwide event with a lot of history behind it.

From what I am reading in this forum, it is more of us versus them and the politics are taking a side show. I am not a supporter of these boycotts on either side because it gets no where and I reserve judgment to who I support or oppose, but lets face the facts, China is gaining in power both economically, politically, and militarily. It has got people scared, angry, and jealous depending on where you are, how you grew up, etc. Right now, the Chinese can destroy the world economy if it wanted to because of their US foreign reserves holdings, but that would mean they would destroy themselves so a lot of you who want to see China destroyed and buried in the sand might find yourselves destroying and killing yourself. I am sure I am in the minority on this, but the right way would be to deal with them like what PM Rudd of Australia is doing. Blowing hot air is not going to solve the problem nor is forcing people or governments to support our brand of democracy as we all should have learned from Iraq because in all likelihood it will not work. I hate to sound so high-minded and self-righteous, but in 10 or 20 years when a lot of you are older, wiser and maybe have seen the world such as I have where I have been to many parts in the world where they would not give the US, the EU, or Japan the time of day, you might understand why people do these things which you might deem undemocratic, but they deem democratic.

This whole Olympic Games is already a disaster. Everyone now associates it with demonstrations, hate and Chinese nationalism. Those crowds of Chinese swamping the "Journey of Harmony" (haha) relay with wave upon wave of Chinese flags were completely mistaken. They should have turned up with flags of all nations to try and promote the Olympic spirit.

Now it seems that the Olympics is all about Chinese pride and arrogance. Well done China for a great start to the games!

Very few people want to see China destroyed and buried in the sand. Most of us would like to see the CCP controlled Dictatorship destroyed and buried in the sand. Perhaps in 10 or 20 years when you are older you will understand what being a "Chinese Patriot" really means.

This article begs the question of why these demonstrations at Carrefour is still going on when we know that the Chinese government wants to put a stop to this as soon as possible to minimize the negative effect on the Olympics just some 100 days away. Could it be be that finally the rampant Chinese nationalism may have become too strong for the government to control? Frightening thought.

Chen Yonglin(former chinese diplomat) is right with assessment about this young generation of chinese(the type of so called students with red flag everywhere):they are spiritually brainwashed,they are brainless, they will do whatever CCP tell them to do... Some poster worry about China will be destroyed,burried...what about us?Are we safe from these people with extreme nationalism? Franse just had a little bit of a go at Olympic torch for a few minutes,because it was a short and rare opportunity to protest.On the other hand these chinese keep protesting at French shops for many days ,even now Olympic torch is in China and waiting to be carried up to the top of Everest.

OssanULTRA, china has been beaten hard by French in the history,French troops invaded china and burned down chinese imperial palace to ashes,robbed its wealth,killed its people.to some chinese,their anger towards french was not because they are nationalist or pride being wounded,they are angry because the violance happened in the torch relay evokes the memory of the war,happened two hundred years ago,leaving many dead.oh yes, french people are sympathetic,but only for the Tibetan i guess.

china has been the country tortured for centries, thank to the west democratic nations and japan.there has been numerous various never-ending war/invasion since 1840s.when i was in high school studying that period of history, even our school teacher got all bitter and weepy.Olympic has been a sort of thing our grandfather or greatgrandfather's generation could only dream. chinese has been self-depreciating and self-pitying for years.yet when we did have a chance not only take part in the Olympics but really host one,look how the world welcomed us!humiliation, insult, snort.Olympics do not just belong to the CCP,it belongs to all our chinese, the people,whether they live in mainland, hk, or oversea.it is a ceremony for us to really say goodbye to our painful past and look at the bright sight in the future.

I'm French, I'm proud to be French, you don't know anything about my own country! "two hundred years ago" do you know what happened 200 years ago in Europe? and especially in France? I guess no, after French revolution, all (right "all") europeans countries went to war against France! we had to protect ourselves and then we tried to disturb any place in the world where others europeans were! if you still regard that we still have to apologize, you are very childish! if we (not only France) should apologize for the past every time, then we should stop all partnership because almost all europeans countries have been in war against the whole world! (excepted USA for France!) ah and by the way, we don't mind that Chinese protest against French, unlike what you think, France doesn't make a lot of money in China! (we don't need you and we don't need to destroy you though)
