But who warns Putin against meddling?
Probably not necessary though. It does seem Russians love this authoritarian throwback.

Putin should be more specific and say no meddling in Russian affairs "before, during and after elections."

Would you expect any less from a former KGB agent? I mean, seriously......

The west, meddle in another country's affairs?....NAAAAH!

I'm not a Putin fan but I like this part here. America needs to stop protecting Japan. That money needs to return home and pay off our debt. American soil should never be owned by foreign interests. I think America and Russia could be cool if we don't show any hostility towards each other.
I mean really, when was the last time anyone Russian did something nasty to you?
Being realistic though....so long as there is such thing as a woman's vanity there will be wars and conflict.

Putin is putting more pressure on its relationship with America. Any opposition parties that have a chance of winning are already in prison. This election i a sick joke and Putin is trying to draw attention from this fact.

We in the West have no desire to meddle in internal Russian affairs. As long as fair and free elections are respected ad acknowledgement for each others sovereignty. It is not like we want to install a pro American Govt in the Kremlin anyways. We also want Russia to be more civilized by not sending more spy agents into the U.K and U.S like Anna Chapman.

To decide the question of interfering, world leaders should go mano-a-mano on the mat. I think Putin could take Obama and any of the GOP candidates. We would have to start electing MMA fighters to the White House to protect our sovereign rights.

4,000 Russian prisoners die in prison within a year in Russia. Do I pay attenton to this guy what he has to say to the world? naah!!

Despite his "hard man" image Putin is too scared to allow free and fair elections. He will win by stuffing ballot boxes and fiddling the figures. Come on Putin, stop being a coward and allow the people a free choice.

Let the people of Russia to decide what to do with Putin. No, sorry, I have to correct myself: the "West" has not and will not have a right nor power to substitute by itself the will of Russians expressed explicitly or implicitly. At least, it will not dare to use its lovely "democratic bombing" style until a nuclear triad is on and ready.

Russia and true freedom?? Not if Putin and the KGB have their way!

Japan cannot keep leaders, and Russia cannot get rid of them.

I'm sure that Medvedev could run for Prime minister of Russia...oops, I meant, Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation. Anyway, heard that position is going to be available soon. Guess the new boss will be the same as the old boss.

To be fair, Putin warns everyone against meddling in Russian elections, including opposition candidates.

@NetNinja, as always, your post makes no sense but I agree about the US millitary presense in Japan. We don't want your soldiers here, you don't want them here. They should just pack up and go back to their own country as you suggest

Russia is not Libya so ya the west should listen carefully.

Haha, and Russia should stop meddling in NATO's missile defense shield. It's for defense, not offense. If Russia is so concerned, build its own!

Called a dictatorship by two men. Putin-Medvedev-Putin-Medvedev-Putin-Medvedev...............
Many political prisoners are still in prisonl and they are slaughtered while they are in prison.without trials. I guess we have been in illusion that the cold war had ended, but it is still alive well.

MaboDofuIsSpicy, question for ya.
Today we were told that Russian government placed 16 US Embassy personnels on a spy list and Russian govt wants to monitor their activities 24/7 per CNN/GPS Why is that? It's kindda unreasonable and uncalled action taken by Russia, don't you think?

What a tragedy :(
Russian services declared this. U.S. peers didn't just silently did the same with Russian embassy staff as soon as they came to the states. Really disappointing.

Putin is not referring to America. Obama is the sort that wept openly when the Berlin Wall came down, and not from happiness.

So, basically Putin is asking the West not to show its meddle in Russian elections.

I am utterly shocked that foreigners are paying off NGOs in Russia to do such a thing. Putin will win anyway because he is Putin, one of the greatest men this world has ever seen. All the best to him and please have lunch with me Mr. Putin. I have already been waiting for 10 years now....

Japanese certainly prefer them over having their own standing army.

Why do sentences like that always tend to drive me to the edge? The West is not the same as the US. The West is more than the US will ever be because it is diverse. Statements like "The West, we, America" help Putin with his anti-Western propaganda. "The West" itself (the US included) doesn't have any larger problem with Russia than it has with China, Japan or the US (being global players bending the rules of economy).
Russia is no democracy and has never been. However, this is first and foremost a Russian problem. They once elected Putin again. Therefore, they created the problem themselves. They should solve it themselves. If it takes a few decades - well, so be it. There is no way of forcing another country to become democratic. There has never been any.
Admittedly, I do not like Putin and his autocratic rule - but I worry more about other politicians and countries.

reunconstracted, I am lost what you are trying to say. What your statement? Broken logic to me. Explain, please.

There is no dobt he will be your boyfriend, Foxie. What did he accomplish for Russians? He is a former KGB chief. He knows how to control people who are against him. Many intellects and journalists who are opposing him have been arrested and sent to jail for no reason.. Over 4000 Russian prisoners still die within a first year in prison without trials. Foxie, if he is your man, you have a great taste in selecting a wrong man.

If Russia was actually having an election I would be worried about the west meddling. Putin is just trying to deflect attention from his own shortcomings as a leader - and the fact that he is going to be leader again in spite of what the voters might think.

@NetNinja
What is a relationship between this topic to moving US troops out of Okinawa, NetNinja? Do you think it will help Russian's election to change?
@Hide Suzuki
Do you understand what has been going on with a China's military expansion in recent years? Do you understand what's going on with the Northern Island of Japan? Do you understand a change in Japanese demography filled with older seniors, no birth rate growth , a sovereign debt ratio more than 200% and no political leaders in decades? How do you protect yourself? If you believe there would be no threats from China, NK and Russia , you are living in a dream world. If US troops move out of Japan, you will be the first one to be drafted to JSDF. Oh how do we Americans love that idea!!!! You are helping our defence spending cut. Thank you, Suzuki. . We ain't gonna stay in Japan. Hell no to that. We will leave helpless Japan alone. Do not come back and ask us to protect you.The party is over. You go Suzuki!! For once I agreed with you.
Basically what I am trying to say on the post here is that we need to pay attention to the HIDDEN message in his statement.

I dont get it-I thouht things were all smooth recently-why is Putin saying something about America all of a sudden. I mean when you point fingers like that, AMerica either has to ignore it and let it be believed, or say something. What can you say really? 1) It's not true 2) Yous are bad so its true........Not much wiggle space hey; if you say 2 then you sound bad anyway........okay Michael Jacksons-whose bad- just sang in my head. Why does Putin even make this statement? Like because there is some foreign people who have connections in Russia-so like Russian people who would be foreign like and against Putin? Yepp, no sense, leave it to Russia to handle. Let them call other Russians foreign if they wish, its all foreign to me.

The Truth Matters
Do you know this for a fact or are you making things up. Since becoming a member of this site, I have found that you have a propensity for untruths.
The truth, does, in fact, matter. Especially to the children.

It looks like Putin & Co are planning some drastic economical changes soon after elections, possibly unpopular. Thus, they need somewhat to consolidate society on a basis different from economy. It is a standard practice to do. It feels that most of the things Putin does are economical in the background.

Our leaders Putin and Medvedev doing some errors, some times very big errors. We not have some illusions, we understand it. But they really works and really wants growing of Russia. I'm remember 1990-1999 period also last USSR years. That is terrible - all leaders was stupid. Also USA, NATO is so mush wild and aggressive. We need stable live, like work and we do it. We see on Parliaments in EU, USA, Japan... So like hen house.
I'm shocked of Parliament in EU. They drop sovereignty without war because they need some credits. Where you can find effective full freedom Parliament? So much freedom in Parliament like anarchy.
