Open mouth insert foot. I said we would not hear about this again, but there it is.

But I don't feel much more enlightened about the whole thing despite this article

“There is not an ounce of truth in all this about Pentagon, or the CIA, or smear campaigns, nothing like it.”

Maybe, but you cannot blame people for considering that the usual suspects might be involved given the timing. Did I say "might be"? I sure did, and I always have been.

    Rapist?

SuperLib, yes, your question is a good one. However, the timing of these charges is coincidental to say the least. With the evidence in front of you, which do you think to be more likely?

The major embarrassment to the military and the administration which vetted its mission is of rather recent vintage. While I suppose that it may be true that Assange's recent publicity has vested him with a new-found power, I think it is more likely true that a rapist could have been a rapist at any time.

Apparently the prosecutor believes that she has a case, so he might well be a rapist. I don't have a dog in this race. However, with the public information available to date it smells to me more like a honeytrap or the subornation of perjury than it does rape.

“I am very upset,” he said. “And also worried about the Swedish justice system’s lack of respect for people’s integrity.”

    Integrity? Outing informants?

Maybe the women are being paid to pursued the rape charges or to charge him with rape. To discredited him.

Maybe he did commit the act, but thinks he is a big shot who will get away with it.

The sole purpose of this is to distract people from the real issues. People have short attention span.

“We hope that he will clear his name and meanwhile the WikiLeaks organization is going on with its endeavors,” Hrafnsson told AP.

It doesn't matter what the outcome would be because WikiLeaks is a separate entity that probably does not need him.

What was the relationship between these 2 women?

I'm hoping the police investigation be Wikileaked.

The governments of the world certainly don't like WikiLeaks. You can decide for yourselves but I think any means to close him down would be employed.

I hope he didn't force these two women, but if he did, I hope they will smack him hard.

If you are looking for a conspiracy motive, well, perhaps someone wants a reason not to grant him a Swedish work & residence permit.

What evidence? So far we've just had an accusation. I'd rather wait and see what happens in terms of evidence. If you want to put out some conspiracy theories, then I can't really stop you.

The major embarrassment to the military and the administration which vetted its mission is of rather recent vintage.

In the end the leaks didn't turn out to be that much of an issue. It fell out of the headlines in less than a week. I'm not sure why you'd think people would want to put him back in the spotlight again intentionally. He tried it himself last week by releasing some new document that turned out to be pretty uneventful, but the attempt to distract was rather obvious.

We'll see what happens with the case. If information is released that points towards his guilt then you'll have plenty of time to discredit it.

Meanwhile, whether guilty or not, Assange has already been tarnished and all the discrediting of evidence won't change that. It was a fact animals like Joe McCarthy and Roy Cohn counted on.

He decided to tarnish his own name by releasing the documents, IMHO. And do you really think an accusation of rape is going to really change any minds? It seems to me that people either believe or don't believe him based on their support for the war. I don't think a rape charge will change much of that, either.

" It seems to me that people either believe or don't believe him based on their support for the war."

Exactly. I can't see it doing his credibility with the radicals any harm adding the potential CIA honey-trap conspiracy. It'll probably win hearts and minds with certain.

Oh, yeah. Whistleblowers are scum. God forbid the people know the truth. The Pentagon should be able to hide whatever the want at whim, no rules. They only have our best interests at heart, as always. It was the same thing with Hoover and McCarthy too. So just bow down to the government and curse the whistleblowers who muck up all the fun with delivering us the truth.

"Your arms stock take a nosedive or something?"

Heh, I don't think he'd be wasting time here if he had any.

What whistle exactly has this geezer blown exactly with all those documents?

Mist, your "argument" is just too silly and emotional to respond to.
