Well, there may not be any designer babies this year, but it's going to happen. I would bet that there are a few desighner babies already.

Im not sure if its a can of worms worth opening here at JT, but if it does make the human race smarter, healthier and disease resistant...do we want to wait on evolution to sort it out? Im on the fence, but the positive possibilities seem to outnumber the paranoid fears. The only way to make it fair would be make it free to all, shold they choose it for thier ofspring...

Adaydream: Selective breeding through the processes of sperm donor selection is pretty much genetic engineering, just a bit more old school. Selecting a desirable mate is just seeking favourable genetic traits to combine with. Same goes for animal breeding, and agriculture. You dont keep growing the crops that fail too easily or yeild less. So yup, we already have designer babies. and its people who can afford them, that get them. The rest go do it the fun messy way, or adopt. Even then its a selection process.

The Nazis wanted to create a super race, so this kind of genetic engineering must be a good thing, mustn't it?

the nazis were weirdos man, they wanted them all to look the same too..boring. Ill be happy with faster, smarter, stronger, and easy on the eye, but keep the variety.
