Why combat global warming? The earth has warmed and cooled for 4.3 billion years. It would be just as easy to stop the sun from rising in the morning. Try adapting - humans have done it in the past and are certainly capable of doing it again. These people are just trying to push a political agenda by scaring people. The average "citizen" of the world has caught on to this scam and are getting tired of it.

What? No! How come? I thought we were in a global cooling!?
Wolfpack: Earth has been cooling and warming as you said. I don't know myself if humans are really responsible in any change on the global scale. If the earth will warm up rapidly, us, humans, would able to adapt to some extent but the fauna and flora won't since it has to adapt in a longer process. What is a political agenda?

A fair statement would be that some scientists have predicted summer ice free Arctic Ocean as soon as 2013. But others expect it to happen a little slower between 2040-2060. Differences occur when research focuses on the area of the Arctic based on aerial, satelite photographs or on thickness and volume of the ice as well as area. In both cases, scientist have seen melting, however when estimates are based on the latter method, melting seems to be happening much faster. There is always a wide range of informed opinion and debate on the issue of Artic melting. Hence, the most important thing is that we should be prepared for the worst case-scenerio.

If water expands when it is frozen why does it melting contribute to higher seal levels? Strange science.......
TumbleDry
Mittsu: Maybe because less ice form than ice melt?

Mittsu, how about if ice on land melts?
Mittsu
Could be. Is there so much ice on land as to push sea levels up? i thought sea was about 70% of planet's surface. And deserts are about 20% of land. and lots more has no ice. So how does some of (say) 20% (ice or snow) of 30% (landmass) melting lead to dramatic rise in sea level. not disputing, just curious.

Mittsu take a look at some pics of the Arctic and Antarctica. There is an awful lot of ice sitting above sea level. The clues are in the article.

No way! I can't believe it. The findings actually emphasize a need for greater urgency? Yeah, no political agenda here... Maybe they should talk to Al Gore, he probably still believes what they're peddling, even if he doesn't feel a need to change his own lifestyle as a result.

Global warming is here to stay, faster or slower it's here. We better adapt ourselves fast (if I had a house by the beach, I'd move it to higher grounds), get used to hotter days. It is a tragedy our grandsons will inherit from us.

When it comes to Global warming, not even the best scientists can agree on how soon or how later. What we know is that history proves that nature can become really rough and inaction costs human lives. We need to be aware of the worse case and seriously prepare for major events like earthquakes tsunamis and rising sea levels.

@TumbleDry:
Not true at all - plants and animals adopt as well. Ever heard of the white moth in England that adapted to living on smoot covered buildings by evolving a new darker color. There was a time when plants existed on the North Pole but after the freeze plants didn't cease to exist. A huge number of plants and animals have evolved and become extinct prior to even the advent of humans on the planet. People need to look at the big picture and adapt.
The political agenda is the Left's undying desire to control every aspect of peoples lives. Global warming theory gives these people an excuse to micro-manage every aspect of life because energy is essential to modern life.
