The chairman of the Republican National Committee on Saturday admonished one of his potential successors for giving members a CD featuring a song called “Barack the Magic Negro.”

Chip Saltsman, who is seeking the RNC chairmanship, sent committee members a 41-track CD by conservative comedian Paul Shanklin as part of his Christmas message to committee members.

    The party of Lincoln indeed.

limbaugh told a caller objecting to the song in March 2007, according to show transcripts. “But remember what we do on this program: We illustrate absurdity by being absurd.”

Change illustrate to demonstrate, absurdity to hate mongering and absurd to hate mongers and rush would have uttered the most truthful thing of his entire misbegotten career.

I think the racism inherent in this stunt is blindingly obvious and indefensible, but then I've been threatened with banishment from JT for pointing out racists, so never mind.

you can do parody and not be a racist while doing it. just go to www.theonion.com website. they make parodies of Obama all the time, and they are hilarious!

I wonder if Obama supporters did a similar parody titled "John the Magic Cracker" that it would be received in the "light hearted" manner that it was intended? Would Obama be P-E? RNC cannot seem to shed their whites-only image and only they wonder why.

    Wolfpack

The parody makes sense in response to the liberal columnists original "Negro" opinion piece. Limbaugh makes the point that Obama's rise has helped guilty whites feel better about themselves. David Ehrenstein (a guy who once called for the murder of a conservative Supreme Court justice) makes this point in his article:

    http://www.latimes.com/news/opinion/la-oe-ehrenstein19mar19,0,5335087.story?coll=la-opinion-center

Chip Saltsman didn't have a snowball's chance in hell to get the chairman's job. He is chances are less than that. Michael Steele's chances have just gone up...

Well I have not heard the song so its hard to tell, but I bet it has something to do with people voting for Obama just because he is half negroid. If he only had a companion song illustrating how his audience voted for McCain just because he is whole caucasoid, or that theme was at least half of this song, we might be able to overlook it.

Actually, I am not half as offended by the word "negro" as I am with people like Limbaugh using it to get his audience to hate our incoming president. Righties are bitter that we hated their installment of the last 8 years (even if we did have good reason). It is true that many people voted for Obama because he is half black, as true as many voted for McCain because he wasn't, but Rush should know the zombies in his audience enough by now to know that most of them won't get it and will instead just see race hate.

The songs often do have some wit, but this was foolhardy. No matter the lyrics, people are going to go off the title.

Wolfpack - please explain what you think "white guilt" is. I voted for Obama because he was clearly the better candidate, regardless of skin tone. I felt only confidence in voting for him, elation at his (and by extension America's) victory, and guilt never played a part.

    smithinjapan

Anyone who thinks that they alleviated any 'white guilt' by voted for Obama are morons, and the idea that this parody is okay because it "points that out" is equally foolish. This guy is just showing his true colours, so to speak. No wonder Republicans in general can't get it together, and kudos to the chairPERSON for pointing that out.

    Sarge

Sung to the tune of Puff the Magic Dragon, by "Al Sharpton":

    Barack the Magic Negro

    Lives in D.C.

The LA Times they called him that cause he's not authentic like me

Yeah the guy from the LA paper said he made guilty whites feel good

They'll be voting for him and not for me cause he's not from da hood...

Hee hee! Some people can't take a joke. Apparently you can't use the word "negro" or "whites" without being "rascist."

    adamantine

Barack the Magic Negro. Pretty shocking stuff.

And then there is Obama's friend, the rapper Ludacris, whose songs glorify the gangster lifestyle, violence and misogyny.

...You never should've doubted him With a slot in the president's iPod Obama shattered 'em Said I handled his biz and I'm one of his favorite rappers Well give Luda a special pardon if I'm ever in the slammer Better yet put him in office, make me your vice president Hillary hated on you, so that bitch is irrelevant

You can't stop what's bout to happen, we bout to make history The first black president is destined and it's meant to be The threats ain't fazing us, the nooses or the jokes So get off your ass, black people, it's time to get out and vote!

Paint the White House black and I'm sure that's got 'em terrified McCain don't belong in any chair unless he's paralyzed Yeah I said it cause Bush is mentally handicapped

    Ludacris, "Politics as Usual"

USAFdude, Taka313 - Understand the mentality that you're argueing with.

Republicans are just pulling your strings. Yeah they're racist, but they're pulling your strings.

There's no white guilt going on here. Only republicans that want to play the race card, in reverse.

I'm going to do the smart thing and get a piece of mincemeat pie. < :-)

    Sarge -

Some people can't take a joke.

This wasn't meant as a joke, and you know it. But what the hell; the election still turned out for the better, so feel free to sing whatever you like!

  • 0

    Sarge

"the election still turned out for the better"

    We'll see.

    Sarge -

    We'll see.

    You certainly will.

adaydream - couldn't agree more. String-pulling is all the Republicans have left, poor bastards.

    Taka313

This is why I can't give this site up.

First, we have sarge, saying, "Some people can't take a joke."
That, coming from the same guy who demands apologies over the internet. I guess he would fall into the "some people" category.

Then there's...my boy, never admit blame when you can try (unsuccessfully) to deflect it elsewhere.

    Inside of 15 posts (otrtrwiapatdbe).

    Bank on it.

Found an interesting blog article concerning this. His picture may suprise some people. Has a link to whole Op-ed piece also. Poor taste to parody it in a song I agree. Though it isn't like it wasn't inspired by a a rather suprising source.

    http://www.artsjournal.com/herman/2007/03/obamarama.html

Text, subtext and context, David Ehrenstein's op-ed in today's Los Angeles Times is cultural critiquing at its finest -- the best I've read to date about Barack Obama. It begins:

As every carbon-based life form on this planet surely knows, Barack Obama, the junior Democratic senator from Illinois, is running for president. ... But it's clear that Obama also is running for an equally important unelected office, in the province of the popular imagination -- the "Magic Negro." And it ends:

Like a comic-book superhero, Obama is there to help, out of the sheer goodness of a heart we need not know or understand. For as with all Magic Negroes, the less real he seems, the more desirable he becomes. If he were real, white America couldn't project all its fantasies of curative black benevolence on him.

In between, Ehrenstein provides substantial insight based on evidence drawn from Hollywood trivia that few cultural critics have the expertise to marshall and fewer still would know how to apply to matters of race and politics.

I'm apalled that they should sully that classic ode to recreational drug use.

    Taka313

    Nessie,

I would bust a gut if the "artists" that came up with the new lyrics were sued by Peter, Paul and Mary.

And you are right. Puff deserves better, as do we all.

Wolfpack - please explain what you think "white guilt" is.

What Wolfpack can only mean is the guilt felt by many whites of both parties when confronted with the pathetic ticket cobbled together by the Republican party.

    Sarge

taka313: "First, we have sarge, saying, "Some people can't take a joke." That, coming from the same guy who demands apologies over the internet."

Heck, I only demand apologies when I'm slandered or insulted. And, anyway, it's true that some people can't take a joke or appreciate the humor in this parody!

  • 0

    USARonin

Someone recently used the term "Half-African" which is entirely accurate when referrin' to his ethnicity.

A half-white, half-black child raised by two old white folks. His gran'parents were the only ones who didn't ditch this kid as fast as they could.

    Yep, everyone can make it.

    USAFdude

Sarge - >Heck, I only demand apologies when I'm slandered or insulted. And, anyway, it's true that some people can't take a joke or appreciate the humor in this parody!

Like I said above (which you never addressed, by the way), this wasn't meant as a joke. It was meant as blatant racism and hatred by people who believe every word of these "songs". Then, they try to defend the songs by passing them off as "jokes". In short, these people are liars and cowards who can't admit what they've really done; no big deal, as they'd never have the balls to spew the vitriol to my face.

Ronin - America didn't ditch Obama; we elected him President of the United States of America, thank Christ!

  • 0

    USARonin

Mister Dude, I didn't say America ditched him.

If you know anything about Obama who's originally from my state, then you'd know his father deserted him and his mother. Then his mother deserted him as soon as she could when he was still a child.

Obama was raised by his two (white) elderly gran'parents.

So far Obama's been more conservative in his actions and appointments than McCain would've been. So far, all I can say is, "Thank Chr*st..."

It seems you're the one who ought to feel betrayed... No homosexual marriage for you supported by him... Gates from the Pentagon... stayin' in Iraq until the job is done... more troops to go to Afghanistan to go after Bin Laden.

Yep, Mister Dude, seems like someone lied to you alright.

  • 0

    adaydream

So we have a black republican that makes racist parodies. Big deal. Does that make it repeatable? Only if you're a racist. < :-)

  • 0

    USARonin

Worse things were said about Bush and he didn't complain.

    Obama isn't either.

Try to be strong like them.

  • 0

    USAFdude

Ronin - you've swung and missed so many times in one post it's hard to know where to begin! LOL!

    1. Your statement, verbatim, was "His gran'parents were the only ones who didn't ditch this kid as fast as they could.". I merely pointed out that the vast majority of Americans supported him in the election, rather than "ditching" him.

    2. I feel no betrayal, only relief. Gates is being given a chance to redeem himself by working for a better CnC, the Iraq pullout will happen, and more troops to Afghanistan is what I've been advocating for years, especially to track down OBL. Sweet!

    3. "No homosexual marriage for you..." Well, my wife (female) will be relieved to hear it! By the way, why are you so preoccupied (afraid) of homosexual marriage that you feel the need to throw that jibe at me?

Yep, someone lied to me, all right; YOU did, and I'm glad I'm smart enough to both detect and deflect it.

    Dude-2; Ronin-0. Your turn! xD

  • 0

    Sarge

Dude: "Gates is being given a chance to redeem himself"

Um, did Gates screw up somewhere?

    "a better CnC"

    Who, Obama? Hee hee!

    "the Iraq pullout will happen"

And, thanks to the surge, which Obama opposed, the troops will be pulling out IN VICTORY!

  • 0

    USAFdude

Well, it won't be a victory until we capture/kill OBL and win in Afghanistan, but we appreciate the support, sarge. I'm sure President of the United States Barack Hussein Obama appreciates it too. You remember him, don't you - he's the better CnC we US military overwhelmingly voted for.

I can tell you think the term ‘Negro’ is inappropriate, that it’s old hat and shouldn’t be used, that it’s divisive and this sort of thing, and you may have a point,

Negro in this context means Homo Sexual. The Obama parody is more a subtle way to expose his Homo Sexual history to the public which will be used against him politically.
