I agree, it is a time to celebrate. However, I do wonder why they have a need to be so 'over the top' at these pride festivities. I was watching the local news this afternoon, and they were covering the parade. As the camera panned around the crowd, it caught this giant inflatable penis being tossed around, and the camera quickly turned away.
My point being, is there really a need for any gay pride gathering/celebration (or any for that matter) to have people dressed in ridiculously flamboyant outfits, with no clothes, openly sexual behavior, etc. etc.? My feeling is that such displays only gives ammunition to the hate mongers and feeds their stereotypes. I am all for marching and celebrating diversity but I would hope it would be done so that all participants could be proud of who they are and what they stand for, not caricatures of themselves.
But I bet if I'd have been beat down for decades, watched hate crimes committed, been looked down at for just being human and finally allowed to marry...I might want to celebrate in the streets, too.
Over the top, nah. Having fun, I bet they are. < :-)
Gay-Pride Parade Sets Mainstream Acceptance Of Gays Back 50 Years
"WEST HOLLYWOOD, CA–The mainstream acceptance of gays and lesbians, a hard-won civil-rights victory gained through decades of struggle against prejudice and discrimination, was set back at least 50 years Saturday in the wake of the annual Los Angeles Gay Pride Parade."

Isn't this largely what being gay is all about? After all, this is a group of people who identify themselves primarily by their sexual behavior. It would seem that many of of these people who define themselves by their sexual preferences are obsessive about sexual behavior to the exclusion of other important factors.

I think it's the liberal media reporting this.
