Of course few consider that if they accepted that members of government are human and allowed them to have a private life, they could then be more careful about who they have affairs with and not sleep with the same woman as a Cold War enemy. Nor could they be bribed over affairs.

Frankly, the people that respond so viciously to sex scandals are the real national security threat.
