“It should be that if you’re caught with a gun or before you use it that it should be a higher sentence than what they get now,” the 71-year-old said.

Pie in the sky right next to Lucy with diamonds.

Before you use it? Ringo, when you get that time machine working, you let us know, okay?

But a system of gun control laws is definitely needed and they need to be enforced as so many are not now. But those laws should not depend on non-existant technology or magic to work.

Ringo Starr called for tougher sentences for gun users

Ol' Ringo has hit work cut out for him.

The single best-selling item across America on last 'Black Friday' ?

    Guns.

Obama has gutted the economy while ratcheting up race tensions. People are scared and many are creeped out by the Occupy goons.

unreconstructed: "Obama has gutted the economy while ratcheting up race tensions."

Now how did I know you'd come on to a thread that is COMPLETELY unrelated to Obama and whine about him? No mention of John Lennon or his death -- just more obsession over Obama. It's quite unhealthy, lad.

And as usual, with Americans, Ringo's very realistic and poignant message about the destructive power of guns and why stricter measures should be taken is lost on those who choose to be blind or deaf to the truth. As with the daily gun-related death stories coming from the US, Lennon's death could have been avoided if there were actual gun control in the US. History will look back some day and laugh at the outright stupidity of the US's gun laws (errr... lack of).

thought they were illegal in New York. Suppose he would of stabbed him with a kitchen knife if a gun was not available. He means well but so many of these illegal laws do nothing but make money for the yakuza.

A gun is just a tool, it does not equal intent. I don't think that if there were no guns in the US at the time of Lennon's death that he would have survived given his assailants intent to kill him. A knife, a blunt object, or whatever are still legal and are just as effective - although not as easy to use. Given Lennon's political activism in America - even though her was in a foreign country - he surely knew of the US constitutions right to gun ownership. Regardless, he decided to live in America anyway. It's a shame that he died in this way.

As with the daily gun-related death stories coming from the US

People are murdered every single day in every single country by a variety of means, what makes dying by a gun so special?

Lennon's death could have been avoided if there were actual gun control in the US.

That is not true at all and you know it, there is gun control in the US, if you have a criminal and or a mental background you can't purchase a firearm, it is illegal to be a straw buyer, it is illegal to point and or discharge a firearm at someone unless it is in self defense, etc.

And as usual, with Americans, Ringo's very realistic and poignant message about the destructive power of guns and why stricter measures should be taken is lost on those who choose to be blind or deaf to the truth

Says the person who purposely ignores the fact that gun violence, both per capita and grand totals, has been falling for the past 15+ years in the US. If gun violence has been falling for the past 15 years in the US why in gods name would you need stricter measures when the current measures already work?

May the evil NRA burn in hell!

Why is the NRA so evil to you?
