Eh. Gingrich was just bragging about how he earned 60 grand a speech in a state where the the average household income was less than that.... and he was being literal. If it didn't hurt him, why should this hurt Romney?
I will say it wasn't very "presidential," though.

Oh good grief, the man was just trying to emphasize that he does not support requiring all citizens to buy health insurance. That being said, if I had $10,000 to bet, I'd bet $10,000 Romney will not be the next president.

Serrano: "Oh good grief..."
You're saying that a lot these days, Serrano. Can't blame you, given the subject matter of the thread. Point is, as is said in the article, it doesn't matter WHY he said it -- just that he said it. It proves he is WAY out of touch.
I think if you put the combined gaffes of this GOP run for nomination together they might even rival GWB's gaffes over his two terms combined. This is absolutely hilarious!

Again, that's part of the point -- most of us don't have $10,000 to spare for anything, let alone on a casual bet.

Talk about out of touch! Didn't Romney get the memo? Modern America is about pretending we are all the same.We are all equal.

Amazing, Willard.

A 10 thousand dollar bet, between friendly rivals, if you really think about it, is on par with John Corzine unable to tell Congress what became of the 1.2 billion dollars investors trusted his firm with. And the media needs to go with that.

The health insurance mandate was a Republican-born idea, and a good one at that - particularly if there were a public option available as there is in Japan. Google "Republicans and health insurance mandate" for more.
Mah, they were for it before they were against it - and they'll be for it again once a Republican regains the White House in the latter part of this decade. Until then, look for continued obfuscation, skulking and just plain silliness, as this latest episode illustrates.

This entire GOPTP clown show - in fact every election - involves fake conservative voters backing fake conservative candidates.
That's the only way conservative behavior makes any sense, lol!

What was the bet?

Regardless of the ridiculous bet, Romney or any of his fellow GOP clowns will not get anywhere close to the White House in 2012.

That the original version of Romney's book didn't contain an endorsement of a national individual health care mandate.

So we have one rich guy making a bet with another rich guy, then other rich guys chiming in to say how insenitive it is? These are people who have sat on boards and thrown millions of dollars at each other just becasue it's there to throw. For a moment they feel excited because they can thrown Romney to the wolves and keep their beach houses.

I am trying my hardest to get super outraged about this.

Thank you, Triumvere.

The democrat leaning mainstream media must be desperate when that is the only "dirt" they can dig up on this guy. Making a bet with his own money? That is a story?? Pathetic.

JeremiaW:
Corzine is a democrat supporter. So don´t hold your breath for mainstream media outrage. Their tunnel vision is firmly focussed...

That would mean a second term for Obama. Clinton is the sole post WW2 Dem president elected twice, and of course that happened during that Holiday from History between the fall of the Berlin Wall and 9-11.
Obama ain't no Clinton.

Considering a small rock could beat Obama in the election, I don't see why Democrats are "tweeting" with glee. In fact, I don't know why anyone except a 14-year-old girl would be tweeting. Small people, small minds, I suppose.
Still, Romney should have used a more ridiculous number to get his point across. A number the press couldn't exploit would be 80 gazillion dollars. I doubt Perry has $10,000 to spare, he certainly doesn't have 80 gazillion to lose on a bluff.
Also, don't forget that in America, life's losers are losers because they *are *losers. Anyone getting indignant about the $10,000 moment is likely a loser as well.
