I bet it does. Can you say "payback"? The 20 and 30 year old Russian soldiers who got hammered back in the 1980s are now running the show. Let's face it, with this new spirit of cooperation, Russia could go after the Mujahadeen (sorry Taliban) without having to worry that the US (CIA) was selling them stinger missiles, etc. This offer of help sounds like Putin wants to take his photo at the Khyber Pass.

Putin & Medvedev could come to NZ and have their photos taken on Khyber Pass Road in Auckland, perhaps at the Lion Brewery....
Was talking about Afghanistan with Mr Zaichik the other day and came to the conclusion that Afghanistan as a posting was for Russian soldiers what Northern Ireland was for British ones.

Time for some Sovi....errr sorry what I was trying to say was, Russian style payback....
Ok ok you have to be joking with this story. Can we say that this should not be allowed to happen. How bad would we look if we allowed the Russians to have their hands back in there?

Suppose the Russians want to drive the Americans out of Afghanistan and allow the country to be taken over by the Taliban. Perhaps they want a second shot at taking over the country. Would seem like a good thing for American to turn over the Problem to the EU and Russia. Perhaps this would be a good time for America to withdraw from NATO as well. Let it become an organization for the defense of Europe. EU can defend themselves and it does not need the United States to protect them. They just need the willpower to do such. The United Stated needs to think about its own security first. If a terrorist is able to use a weapon of mass destruction. Then they can hit back both the Terrorist group/nation and their supplier 100 to 1!

Doesn't everybody remember what happened the last time the Russians were in Afghanistan?
Yet another iteration in the complete craziness that is central asia...
If you want to have a more... what's the word?... holistic view of what's been going on "over there," I suggest reading "Don't Clean The Tables With a Floor Mop," a book written by an American Naval officer, who spent a year mentoring the Afghsan National Army
