...and the added benefit of isolating Iran even more. Sounds like a win-win to me. The last thing Russia wants is a nuclear armed Iran...

I don't think that persuading Iran not to produce nuclear weapons is isolating at all.

I'm hoping that this initiative will start the opening of doors between the US and Iran. It may even start repairing US and Russian tensions. < :-)

I do not trust Russia. I think Russia is a sleeping bear that could do serious damage to America. It already has its tentacles in Europe - killing of critics, shutting of energy supplies etc.

And the US is so much more trustworthy? We've been the bully on the block the last few years.

Russia shuts down some supplies of fuel there.

Refineries are shut down here at the most opportune times also and the prices are spiked remarkably due to it.

The price of oil has dropped to $39.00 barrell and we're paying prices like that it should be $70.00 a barrel.

Just depends on who runs the spickets.

I hope the talks start soon. < :-)

oh no no no no! russians are flipping fore and aft, to and fro; their costly endeavours are no place for equitable partnerships or profitable enterprises.

adaydream it may seem like a rogues gallery, but the US is still big picture more reliable than Russia. US citizens are not flocking out of country because of fear of state. Or American critics of Washington do not fear a bullet to the head (exhibit A: Limb.... whatever). Even Bush was not nearly as bad for civil liberties as Putin has and is. America has its problems, for sure, but it isn't in the same league as Russia.

Putin already knows the Democrats were going to kill missile defense. How stupid does Obama think the Russians are offering this up like some kind of carrot? Its still early and there are going to be some missteps along the way but this was amateur hour by the American government. I hope Obama and his team of wizards turn out smart like the media claimed they were.

The missile defense shield is an earmark. Kill it. < :-)

And yet they continue building Iran's nuclear reactors and supplying them with uranium. Doesn't appear the Russians are too concerned about a nuclear-armed Iran.

Russia will try to make money from Iran, and they have a better relationship with Iran than the West does, but Iran + nukes is a big concern for Russia.

to quote Churchill, "jaw jaw is better than war war." I don't see anything that indicates that Obama is giving away the store. The Iranians are pretty much doing as they pleased anyway so a change of tactics to something less antagonistic might produce some results.

Russia is the "sick man of Europe". Always has been and alway will be.Russia dont like the US.Iran dont like the US. Russia can be ignored completely. But Iran can`t, for it is developing nuclear weapons--and it WILL use them. Better safe than sorry, I say. Skip Russia and take out the lunocratic Iranian regime as quickly as possible. At the very least, Iranian nuclear facilities should be destroyed NOW. To wait and see is to wait too late.If the US will not act, I sincerely hope that Israel will take matters into her own hand. Why Israel acts with so much restraint, I will never know. Israel can take out all of those Islamo-fascist nations with one hand tied behind her back. I say the sooner the better.
