Putin is again making another serious mistake, the Russian economy needs Turkey more than the Turkish economy needs the Russian's.

"I'm really saddened", Erdogan said.

Kurds are going to make him more sad.

"Erdogan said he was “saddened” by the jet incident."

He's going to be more saddened bythe sanctions.

Turkey buys ISIS oil at 70% below the market price, then sells it to the world. There is no sanction that can persuade Turkey right now except kicking it out of NATO.

@CrazyJoe The wheat Turkey can buy elsewhere but the transportation costs are going to be greater. The natural gas on the other hand is different. They cant buy it in large enough quantity to supply themselves without a lot of infrastructure work. This will take years to build. They have already lost 10% of their tourism industry when Russia suspended the visa free travel agreement between them. What Russia imports from turkey is mostly fruits and they can get that from other country's in the region.

Al Capone wisely said: "You can get much further with a kind word and a gun than with a kind word alone". Turkey was kindly asked to stop its oil trade with ISIS, ii did not work. Now Russian bombers are working on the problem in Syria. Several hundred oil trucks are already destroyed. To be continued.

This Erdogan guy is a character. First he warns Moscow not to "play with fire" but now, he's "saddened" by the sanctions.

The security and defense major concerns which surfaced and particularized in November 2015 taking into its fold many powerful countries with close and definite impact on global economy were predicted ( implied) by this Vedic astrology writer 17 months past from now in monumental article – Stressful times ahead for world economy in 2015 and 2016 – published in online magazine (blog) astrologyweekly.com on 2 June 2014. The following analysis of the details pieced together from the article suggests that definite pointers have been and are being confirmed by actual happenings on the ground :- (1). Turkey blew it big time here. Russia may have been stupid by flying in others' airspace, as they seem to like doing but blow up others' planes when they do the same, including civilian airliners, but Turkey really dropped the ball by "playing with fire".

Now, Erdogan can be as 'saddened' as we wants after poking the big bear, but it won't change the fact that the big bear is awake and upset. Turkey's going to suffer a LOT from this, while Russia won't suffer much and in fact has only sent a stronger message not to mess with it, and has a lot of support. What's more, Turkey has put even more of a spotlight on itself in terms of its dealings with ISIS in a time when the world is agreeing to step up attacks on the group.

The saddest part of the whole incident was how the russian pilots were shot at with AK's like sitting ducks in the sky as they parachuted down.

That is our fabulous "democratic rebels" in action. Aren´t you proud that your country supports them?

What a child Putin is to childishly punish all of Turkey over what a handful of Turks did in response to Putin's decision to take serious risks and childish inability to accept the consequences of those risks. And to even ask his fellow Russians not to visit Turkey as if all Turks collectively pushed the button and as if all Russians lost something with that plane and pilot.

Kids really ought to be in school and not running governments and not playing war with real war machines.

What a child Putin is to childishly punish all of Turkey over what a handful of Turks

So, to slap economic sanctions unilaterally is childish? Well, according to that logic US presidents are the meanest kids in the world with their sanctions against Cuba, Iran, North Korea, "to punish all that countries as if all Americans lost something".

Asakaze my friend, kak dyela?

I'm not sure quoting Capone is the best way to assure of us of Russia's intentions ;)

Do you think Russia's Capone might back off his aggressive testing of international air, land and maritime borders now that one country has gone a step further in response?

Madverts, my best frenemy!! If you want to impress me, write in Japanese!

I'm disapponted that my irony missed you. I cited Capone because Erdogan's sonny protects highly illegal racket of trading with ISIS, and the language of Capone is more comprehensible for him. I consider Putin more like mob-buster.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Putin is a mob buster? The mob - Putin's - rules Russia in the same way that Erdogan's rules Turkey, More so, in fact. Both are corrupt. This whole situation pot meets kettle.

Dammit it's Sunday morning after a late one you're lucky I can get the English out. I wish I could speak Russian like you speak English...

Gelendestrasse beat me to it. I can't see the irony there when Putin is number one Russian mobster. Although to be fair Western governments (official mafia's) aren't a whole lot different, we just have people like Putin in the dark corridors of power and a façade of democracy. But at least we can vote them out.

You used the wrong words. Most people here are Putin and Russia fans.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

@gelendestrasse, Madverts

Yes, yes, the usual Western mantra about every non-Western leader who has the guts to have independent political agenda. I'm very critical of some Mr.Putin's actions myself, but after all he is not worse then US presidents or UK prime ministers. They look "democratic", but they cause misery that even North Korean Kim can only dream about. They destroy countries (Iraq, Libya), killing many thousands in the process for the sake of "democracy". That lying weasel Blair finally admitted that the invasion of Iraq was a scam, he knew from the very beginning that Saddam had no WMD. And you try to convince me that he is better then Putin?!!

So, Madverts, old chum, let me use your phrase from another tread:

I cannot let that kind of hypocrisy coupled with state sponsored patriotism fly, if you'll pardon the pun...

And don't drink too much, I need you in top condition for our duels! Cheers!

-1 ( +3 / -4 )

, the Russian economy needs Turkey more than the Turkish economy needs the Russian's.

I don't agree with that statement at all. What's the evidence you have to support it?

2 ( +3 / -1 )

So, to slap economic sanctions unilaterally is childish? Well, according to that logic US presidents are the meanest kids in the world with their sanctions against Cuba, Iran, North Korea, "to punish all that countries as if all Americans lost something".

People on this site seem to have a pernicious problem with the old straw man attack. Yes, that is my logic. I never said otherwise. Why would I absolve the American government or give it the benefit of a double standard? I don't do that.

Putin specifically going after tourism was really, really childish, even if its not an official sanction. Sanctioning milk to Iraq was probably the epitome of childishness and yeah, that wasn't Russia.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

Asakaze,

No hypocrisy here. I didn't support the invasion of Iraq. Quite the opposite. Libya isn't the same intervention, certainly not fair to be used in the same phrase in that context.

And don't drink too much, I need you in top condition for our duels! Cheers!

Are you sure you're Russian? :) Only the Polish can hold their own with you guys which strangely makes us Europeans mere lightweight bairns in consumption...

1 ( +1 / -0 )

When we(Turks) bomb the military group(PKK/PYD) which is enemy of Turkey for like 30 years, that makes us evil. Meanwhile,American intervention in Iraq and Afghanistan are not considered as "Evil".

When we shot down a plane which was going to bomb the Turkmens(Syrian Turks) in the area just for Assad wanted it,and that plane was literally violated our own airspace, we are evil again.

And just because we want to keep our sovereignty and protect our own people in Syria, whole World makes stand against us.

And just because i've said these things, I'll be labelled as "Brainwashed" or "Islamist Erdogan supporter." I have only one thing to say. Bring it on.We are still here. And we will be here despite all of your actions and attacks.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

When we(Turks) bomb the military group(PKK/PYD) which is enemy of Turkey for like 30 years

They are only enemies of Turkey because Turkey won't leave them alone or leave them to their own lands. The Turkish government is not alone in such land greed though, its true. Still does not make it right.

Other than that, yeah, I think Turkey can not be reproached for shooting that Russian warplane down.

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

That is what the EU should do instead of rewarding the islamist Erdogan.

Pure insanity... Russia is run by a politican, and the EU is run by a clown convention.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Didn't Purin say that sanctions were counter-productive?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Only against Russia it would seem.

Having seen certain fellows cheer on Assad downing a Turkish jet in '12 and today showing their "outrage" when it happens to them I'm guessing they are up there with GOP inmates when it comes to consistency or honesty.

I asked the question the other day but none of our Russian contributors responded; will the Russian strongman now back off his aggressive testing of international air, land and maritime borders now that one country has gone a step further in response?
