Ah, good old Russia and its 'even Steven' approach to things. Ah well, no big loss.

"good old Russia"
Smith, do you know who the main counterweight to 'good old Russia' is?

I'm not really sure what you're talking about, sarge. I was just saying 'good old Russia', as in 'this is typical of Russia'. They raise a huge fuss when their hands are caught in the cookie jar and they get assigned punishment.

I'm confused as to the Russians retaliating only against the Canadians? Smith, I'm with you a very typical Russian response. They still haven't learned to play nice with others even though they are supposedly a democracy these days.

The Russians have something against Canadians and fear them so much they see them behind every corner. When telepromter gets here, he will explain.

I believe its due to the fact that Canada has the presidency this year. (I could be wrong on this, as I don't pay much attention to NATO.) Since Russia doesn't have diplomatic relations with NATO, but rather with the members of NATO, it can't expel NATO diplomats in retaliation. Instead it does expels 2 from the country with the Presidency. Standard diplomatic tactics. Everyone around the world does the exact same thing, not just Russia.

Agree wth smith...typical russians. Same old stuff in a new bottle. Still don't trust them.

It could be because the Presidency but as well Canada is one of the few NATO countries that isn't dependent on Russian Oil and therefore Russia has nothing to threaten Canada with other than expelling dignitaries.

Ossan: "Still don't trust them."
I'm not sure it's so much an issue of trust as much as it is just plain childishness. They get caught for spying and rightfully members are expelled. Their reply? to childishly expel others in return. Almost humourous.

Not a good week for Canada. First Europe tells Canada to stop killing seals, now Russia throws out two Canadian diplomats. Since when did they become the punching bag?

Toss out the Canuks? What have they ever done to anybody? I think the Russians are just looking for a soft target. If they tossed out the US or Britain there would be some repurcussions. Still, I would rather be in Ottawa in the spring than Moscow. Moscow is a filthy hellhole unless you are stinking rich. Ottawa is just downright pleasant.

Maybe they just thought that nobody would notice if they kicked out a couple of Canadians. Perhaps not even Canada.

Canada is a soft target as calic0cat said. A more serious response would involve Britain or the USA.

Naw, with Obama in the House, the US is a pussycat. Nobody softer then him.

Wouldn't surprise me, really. As a matter of fact, the diplomats themselves probably just shrugged, got up, and left. I can tell you that I don't really care. I just think the response is funny.
