Ukraine steals and it hurts them and other countries. < :-)

The Ukraine needs to shut down the lines. They should not have to supply power for Russian pipelines. I say cut the EU off and the Russian income will go to zero. Europe will have to find a new supply of energy.

Sounds like Putin needs to start trucking gas, and soon too!

It seems that Russia wants to control all gas energy to all countries. Russia will raise price every year.

Weakness in EU, via gas energy imports. This problem will be solved, the EU has enough euros to buy russian roubles.

how is the gas going to get to them??? Invade the Ukraine a part of NATO? It would take too many trucks to pipe natural gas giggles Not being in the EU and living in a natural gas producing area sorts of makes it not my problem. The Europeans need to lower the thermostat and wear more clothes. This can be their contribution to the reduction of Green House gases.

Well I guess Russia is learning that even if you're right you can't just do anything you want.

Russian thugs can not use their military this time. They need to learn how to negotiate in good faith for a change. It is time for the EU to convert to non Russian fuel sources. Germany and the others need atomic power, solar, wind, geothermal and tidal sources to be developed and deployed. When this happens they would not be dependent on Russia for their fuel needs.

Putin's Russia looks to have slipped back into its old soviet mentality. Careful Europe, you've got a bear on your doorstep.

Wake up call. Biofuels & wood are renewable. Time to set ourselves free from fossil fuels, but society will have to change long held beliefs & expectations based on consumerist fantasy & convenience. We have to slow down and realize our humanity & limitations.

I agree on the need to change. They definitely need more nuclear power, other renewable resources should be tapped as well. But saying we need to recognize our limitations, is to accept that there is nothing we can do, and thats just not right.

I agree with this. But I would expand this across the world. We have so much natural renewable energy sourses that we could reduce our need for fossill fuels by quite a bit, forever. < :-)

I don't know who is in the wrong on this but cutting off supplies is so cack handed as to be irresponsible. Putin is nothing more than an anti-democratic bully. The EU governments should be recalling ambassadors for consultations and, possibly, freezing the assets of Russia's leadership, and tightening visa requirements.

Medvedev is just following Putin's idea/plan. Putin loves old soviet way and watns to make Russia most powerful country to control EU.

It is going to have the reverse effect :) The EU is short of Natural Gas in less than a week. Shows it is STUPID to trust the Russians. adaydream, we agree on something. There should be windmills up and down the mountain ranges of Japan and America as well. There are other sources, Russia cutting off the EU shows how unreliable they are to earn ones trust.
