Nice to see some cool performance art/civil disobedience coming out of Russia. Good luck to these brave and awesome women. Pussy Riot! What an awesome name!
"the defendants’ bare shoulders, short skirts and “aggressive” dance moves violated church rules and offended the faithful."
Woke up the faithful is more like it. Pure awesomeness!!!!!!!!

What the heck is the meaning in front of the band's name? Is the music similar to Madonna's in her self exploration years? "Any publicity is good."

There's an old adage about a clenched fist being unable to hold water.

Sure, as soon as my country is run by a dictator and the churches support him.

Good God, you bet we do. I'm not religious but they'd get me in the church.
Especially Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, she's very cute Pussycat Comrade!

In Russia - the church is a house of God
Mosque synagogue.....buddhist temple....
Several years ago, vandals who painted synagogue by Nazi symbols went to jail...
It' not a "Free World" TM
Sorry - traditional society

Are you seriously suggesting girls wiggling their booties in protest against Russia's elf-imposed Czar can be compared to vandalizing a synagogue with the Nazi symbol?
You can have your rotten dictatorship under Putin imprisoning any dissent against his rule. It won't stop the rest of the world admiring the courage of these girls to speak out against him.

I think my priest would let it fly. He's really old and I'm not entierly sure if he would even notice.
On a bad day they might be escourted off the premisis but I don't think they'd ever be thrown in jail let alone the possibility of seven years for the viscious crime of booty shaking.
Note to self: Do not Dougie in Moscow. At home I'm merely fly (and a delightful embarrassment to my niece and nephew) but in Russia I guess my moves are downright criminal.
Oh, and can't resist
In Soviet Russia dance hustles you.

Yeah! Why not ? These protesters could chouse other place - before Kreml for examle !
Why not ?
Or directly and simply put this video on You Tube ?
Protest ? Yes !
They prefered to hurt religious feelings of Orthodox ...
So - because of this they must go to prison...
Sorry - if you are not Russian citizen dictatorship/Putin/KGB should not disturb your dreams
Hm can they receive US citizenship after prison ? ( They go to prison anyway)
And they will write a memoir and will receive a Pulitzer Prize and the Nobel
not bad huh?

Madverts,
There's an interesting concept.
Olegek,
Sorry, but "hurting feelings" shouldn't end you up with a 7-year prison sentence. The girls should be able to name there band whatever they like and offend whoever they like. At worst this is civil disobedience that should merit a few nights in jail. We all know that they are being punished for the content of their speech rather than the delivery of it.
