Putin does not understand democracy. It is the rule of law not the law of the ruler. It will hurt Russia because the world will reject his egomaniacal antics.

"Liberal" democracy is a fraud and synonymous with corruption, mob rule, foreign meddling in internal affairs and zero accountability.

Yeltsin or Putin? 90% of Russians would still vote for Putin and for good reason - he looked out for the national interest rather than a personal or internationalist interest.

I would hate to think he is the only Russian to do so. If Russians cannot find another guy to do that, then they are well and truly scrood anyway. The sooner they they embrace the democratic process the sooner they can fix that. Extending Putin's term is NOT embracing democracy. It is inviting tyranny. George Washington was offered a lot of things. No doubt he would turn this down too, THAT is how much he had the national interest in mind. Putin should do the same.

if the russian thinks he does a good job and there is no rejection from the majority of russian on putin's return, then so be it, because this is also a form of democracy, well, russian style.

Putin just happened to be the lucky guy who was in power when the price of oil went up (Time should have put a picture of barrel of Oil for it's person of the year). Nothing more, nothing less and with Oil price now more then half of what is was, Russia will start to loss it's economic gains and then what?

If you want to call Russia a liberal democracy I have no interest in debating that. However, Putin is a conservative. His brand of Nationalism can only be placed in the conservative end of the spectrum. So don't use words to try to trick people. Fascists will always be considered Conservative (Right) and Socialists and Communists are considered on the far left. If you understand the political spectrum there is really no room for debate. Don't confuse fascists with Totalitarianism. Either the left or the right can be totalitarians. Hence Mussolini and Stalin were both totalitarians.

Once a thug always a thug! If he returns as President it PROVES that Russia is not a Democracy but a Fascist state. I do not trust him to do the right thing, he has set the world back toward the cold war years. What will he demand next?
