After huge explosion of meteor over Tunguska region in 1908, there were not also any significant pieces of meteorite on the ground.....

I've read estimates ranging from 10 to 17 meters in size, and ten to now 500 kilotons in power. Suffice to say, "big boom".

Just glad there were no known fatalities and few critical injuries.

A friend of mine from Chelyabinsk calls me everyday.. Workers of city communal service and those, who were dispatched from Emercom, Moscow are doing a great job, working day and night. The are sealing damaged windows in houses and high-rise apartments and restoring broken glass and plastic panels.

Vladimir Zhirinovsky's comment shows just how paranoid people can be today. The Soviet Union, Russia, and China have had junk falling from the sky for decades. There was never a theory that the junk was a secret USA weapon. Let's hope the people can recover quickly and that the scientific community spends more time researching asteroids rather than developing foolish theories like Vladimir Zhirinovsky's.

V.Zhirinovsky is a well-known political buffon, who is very provocative verbally, but politically harmless at the same time. He was asked by whoever interviewed him Exactly with the purpose to get the answer, which they have gotten from him. Do not insult science and scientific theories. The answer to your comment was already given in the article:

Asked about the speculation, an official at the local branch of Russia's Emergencies Ministry simply replied: "Rubbish."
