"Others think the plan reeks. The chairman of the San Francisco Republican Party has promised to fight the measure if it does make the ballot."

I'm sure the Dems will step up.

    USNinJapan,

" hope that 70% of the American public isn't that petty and idiotic. "

Again, there is only one party in America that would pull something like this.

    From the site kool-aid provided:

"The Presidential Memorial Commission is a NON-PARTISAN, non-government organization dedicated to paying tribute to the president."

Don't let the facts get in the way of temper tantrum, kool-aid.

    Heh, when the facts are thus;

That in memory of dubya's presidency, they are petitioning to name a raw sewage treatment plant after his tenure, then I'm not surprised the toys have long flown from the pram.

"residents in liberal San Francisco are preparing a parting gift of sorts for the lame duck leader."

Actually it's pretty cool. Though a little cruel in the name the George W Bush Sewage Plant, it just doesn't feel right. San Francisco has a tradition of tolerance and ability to rise above such notions and rather suprised that they show this ugly side of themselves, but as always here to help. I'd proposed a more appropriate moniker in keeping with the San Francisco tradition. It would be nice plaque all can agree with.

The George Bush Fresh Water Recycling Facility

Dedicated to Perserving our most Precious Natural Resource
                      Water for Future generations

Be cool to see a kid a hundred years from now read that. Good Job Frisco.

Kudos on a very objective post. I respect that. Still like the sewage plant name more, but hey...

Hey! guys: how can they do this ? sewage plants are so important infrastructure for human life! why they insult honorable sewage plant to name after " the name can't say " ???

On the ground insight into democracy in action:

Bright Winn, a San Francisco plumber, enthusiastically gave his signature to the cause.

"(Bush) has always done well for the affluent of America, and anyone that does well for the affluent should be named for the effluent," he said....

Officials at the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission, which owns the plant, say they get the humorous intent. But they note that the plant is an award-winning facility that keeps the city's streets and the ocean clean. "If you are looking for a place to make a negative statement about the Bush administration's impact on the environment, this would be the last place to do it," agency spokesman Tony Winnicker said.

kool-aid, So...if that list of people you mentioned are indicative of party affiliations, I guess this project will be a big hit with republican congressmen from Florida, is that your point?

"The Presidential Memorial Commission is a NON-PARTISAN, non-government organization dedicated to paying tribute to the president."

Imagine that, they want to spare their Lefty allies from backlash.

But seriously, what is a thinking person supposed to infer when there appear to be no Democrats that oppose a project whose official website features The Great Seal of the United States redesigned - defiled - so it features an eagle wielding toilet plungers, beneath the inscription "E Pluribus Anus" ?

    Stay classy,Liberals.

And remember to demand that no one question your patriotism.

Yes, when one must politicize everything under the sun, a healthy imagination is important, isn't it?

Seriously, folks (liberals I'm talking to you now, but conservatives should take note as well...) this is not the way to go about things. Hurling insults and profanity just makes you look small. I don't care how much you hate Bush (or anything else for that matter); conduct yourself with a little decorum and act like an adult. Do so and you not only make yourself appear more reasonable, but make others more open to listening to what you have to say. Invective does nothing but polarize, spurring those on the otherside to knee-jerk reactionism.

This sort of behavior has turned political supporters on both sides of the asile into absurd cartoons, and has made any sort of casual political debate in the US completely intolerable.

The assumption that this plant does such a wonderful job of cleaning dirt has nothing to do with such a rosy conception that it would be an honor to have your name placed upon it.. hahaha Come on, who the heck is trying to fool who..

Bush= sewage!!!!!!!! That is the intent and that is what all sees it as being. Try to paint it in a positive way if you like but that does not change the perception given by such an action. The Bush legacy is that of failure!!!!!!! That goes definitely for the loss of lives in the Iraq war from the incompetence of all with him, and under him. What a shame and a sham! Then move to the deals with China and over looking what was to be held for promises they had made when joining the WTO. The US has many problems these days and Mr. Bush has only contributed to them. And besides the WTO commitments, we have the biggest trade deficit in history with the biggest communist country of the world that is building its forces against solely……us!!!!!!
