Reminds me of that movie (Sleepers) about a group of boys that are sent to a detention center where they are abused. Although it'll never be a consolation for the horrible things they had to endure, I'm sure these boy know now what will happen to their former coach.

I suspect there's a lot more victims out there that have chosen to remain silent. Sexual assault against male athletes can't be an easy thing to admit.

All ten victims have never met each other before, and yet all stories were very similar what had happened to each one of them. They were raped. Some of them were raped over 100 times over 10 years period. They were all afraid to tell the truth as he was in a position of trust and power.. The evidences were all there beyond a resonable doubt. He is now sentenced for a life in prison. The justice prevailed...... now his defence team is suggesting to appeal.....Well, they should know better they can only appeal it based on a legal technical error in trial. He is done.

It's amazing how efficient process the US justice system there. This was a big case involving a man in authority, a large university, many children victims, years in timeframe and forensics, national media attention, in a small county courthouse, coordinating a dozen regular folk jurors (not a few lay judges), etc.............. and it was all over in weeks and months, not in years. (Sure there will always be an appeal attempt, but there was no major errors in the court, the judge was fair on both sides, the defense lawyer played the best possible defense, so this is pretty much over.) This could've been delayed and delayed in other places.

Exactly! Who would believe a kid? The people of small town Pennsylvania! What a job it must have been for the jurors to hear such riveting, heart-wrenching testimony day after day! They are true citizens and deverved to be commended for their efforts! The judicial system does work!

So glad he was found guilty! Hooray to Victim 1 for coming forward with it. I hope Sandusky pays for it in prison!

I'm not defending what Sandusky did to those boys, but what is never discussed is what causes/reasons individuals to act in a "deviant" manner. Like same sex attraction which is not natural (from a procreation standpoint) what sexually attracts grown people (mostly men) to children? I don't consider this individual a monster since I don't think pedophilia is a learned behavior; these individuals are "hard-wired" at conception to evenually act in that manner. No simple answers just sadness to all the victims who are permanently scarred...

Not quite - to compare the Catholic Church's shocking history of child sex horrors to Sandusky's crimes would mean a complicit cover-up from the highest echelons of the American judicial system.

But I agree that it is a sickness as well as a crime.

Has nothing to do with same sex attraction, pedophilia knows no sex boundary. There are stories of sick fracks having intercourse with babies. So now this sick fracker is waiting sentencing which will be effectively life in prison. A lifetime perhaps of being confined to a cell 23 hours per day. Oh being in segregation is not always safe. Prisoners have been known to find ways to get them. So he will spend his last years in prison being afraid.

The University should be ashamed of themselves and brought up on charges for covering this up. Sandusky was the culprit, but Paterno and the coaching staff knew this was going on. It's a shame Paterno died (of his own guilt) and missed out on all this. I wonder how much the University is paying out to keep the plaintiffs quiet? Wouldn't be much for them to do it either. Football generates most of the school's money - ironically.

No they didn't. These were not Penn State students. Joe Paterno received a statement that Sandusky was with a boy in the shower and that was pretty much all he was told at the time. But that boy has never been identified and may not have even existed. It is possible the whole thing was invented just to draw attention to Sandusky's other activities. Anyway, it was much later that that eyewitness started telling that shower story as a graphic sex story with plenty of X-rated detail. How was Paterno to know the story would change so completely?

This guy was a highly respected coach, well known and awarded charity operator. In hindsight, you want him investigated over a story that he was in the shower with a boy as happens in locker rooms all across the country? Everybody considered Sandusky to be a saint. Now in 20/20 hindsight you expect poor Paterno, who died earlier this year after being disgraced over the sentiments of a mob, to make a molehill of a still unconfirmed story into a mountain of pederasty?

This is the same argument for homosexuality and both are wrong. People are not born preordained to have sex with children - which is a choice of action. It is not like being born with a certain skin color - which is innate. If a person can bring themselves to believe that pedophiles are born with an attraction to children, then I can see them believing that people are also born gay/lesbian. It is an odd fact that most serial pedophiles are homosexual (mostly men after boys)?

People are not born preordained to have sex with children - which is a choice of action.

I am sure that one day a genetic predisposition to most sexual behaviors will be found, but not by exercising any over-simple words such as preordained or choice. Have you ever heard of a twin who was gay when the other wasn't? That said, not all gay people are the result of a genetic disposition either. Human sexuality is very varied and very pervasive. And non acceptance of that simple reality is the source of the harm of abuse scenarios like this, but people don't want to hear it.

Ask yourself: What was Jerry Sandusky like when he was 10? I highly doubt he was just like every other kid and then became this way with no clues. But that is just what society wants us to think, which is to say, not to think about this about, but just rant and rage, and it solves nothing. I bet a 10 year old Jerry Sandusky would have like to receive his own treatment. Pretending that is impossible means completely misunderstanding the entire issue.
