Alliot-Marie, 64, has served in high-ranking posts since France’s conservatives regained control of the National Assembly in 2002. She was the first woman to serve both as defense and foreign minister.

A sad, disgraceful way to end a high-profile career. For the ordinary French of course getting a grip of the upheavals in Africa and the Middle East, she was an immediate scapegoat.

One can only hope the shakeup isn't superficial, and for real. But by the look of things, even SARKOZY seems ill-prepared during the chaos in Tunisia and Egypt. And as for his foreign policy-- well just ask the Turks.
