No matter how these two crashers got in it was the Secret Service's fault. They are the first line of defense and if there is any question they call for help. Until that assistance comes and authorizes the two crashers in, they don't enter.

So it was the Secret Service's responsibility, period. < :-)

What a dumb thing to say. Why defend the technology at all? Yes it was human error. Obviously. Why does he go to the trouble of defending his technology vendors? I think people have been lulled into this stupid mindset of believing that technology=security... or "if we spend more, we can be more secure." It is that creepy mindset that led the Dallas-FtW airport to upgrade its security camera systems after some joker walked onto an airliner with a loaded gun.

If humans cannot act conscientiously and vigilantly, these multimillion dollar gadgets are just bells and whistles.

Why won't Desiree Rogers answer any questions? Its probably because she was screaming at the Secret Service agents to let these two into the function and the agents didn't want to wind up on Barney Frank detail for agitating a WH staffer...

It wasn't Desiree Rogers job to check invitations and admittance lists. It was the Secret Service's job. Requiring Mrs. Rogers to testify won't change that. < :-)

There was a book on the history of the Secret Service published this year titled: In the President's Secret Service: Behind the Scenes with Agents in the Line of Fire and the Presidents They Protect

The author mentions several times that a lapse like this was bound to happen because he Secret Service agents are poorly equipped, overworked, spread too thin and mistreated. So, many of the best agents leave for other agencies, such as the FBI and DEA. Naturally, the punishment will fall on the low level agents rather than the management level.
