This is what you get for passing a bill before reading it.

But, but, but ..... isn't this the same Democratic Party that won control of Congress in 2006 and consolidated those gains and won the White House in 2008? Isn't this the same Democrtic Party that Americans voted for from coast-to-coast, making Obama's agenda an overwhelming mandate? That's what Nancy and Harry have been telling us. So, why then does the campaigner-in-chief have to waste JP4 flying around the country "to sell his health care revamp"?
Have Pelosi, Reid and Obama been lying to the American voters .... again?

Judging by the outbreak of dancing in the streets all across America after President Obama signed this the first time. The second vote in the House to try again should be a real cakewalk. Hope they don't wait in the House to have to pass it after the spring break. I sure wouldn't want to see those Blue dog Democrats that voted for this thing the first time not have a little more quality time back in their districts and not be bothered with more pesky questions now that the American people are really starting to digest this thing and what it really is going to do to them after all. It could be a little annoying for them.

Heh, I'm so glad none of my money goes to paying these little children playing politics whilst America is suffering the biggest depression since 1930.

RRII: "This is what you get for passing a bill before reading it."
Too bad they never bothered with the Patriot Act or the orders to rush into Iraq, eh? Could have saved your country the utter mess it's in today -- and hey, a whole lot more people not NEED to be covered by this bill! ;)
Some day you guys will learn that having hospital coverage for you and your kids is actually a good thing. Probably won't learn it until you're SOL, but hey, a lot of Republicans are like that.

A lot of famous Europeans moved to the U.S. even though it means giving up on things like socialized health care. They do so because the taxes imposed to PAY for those things are very heavy. As the U.S. moves towards socialized medicine we will find that taxes here will start to increase as well in order to pay for it. What's that Japanese phrase? Oh yeah... "Ah well, it can't be helped."

This is just a delay. It's still going through. < :-)

Gotta love the back-at-cha in Congress. Nancy's rush to vote-now-read-it-later style of politics bodes poorly on her judgement. But then, that is her legacy, is it not?

Snag? Is that what we're calling republicans now? I still prefer Team Temper Tantrum.

Sailwind,
polls show majority support for the bill and a relief that the stalling tactics of the just say no republicans is finally ending. Only the fringe losers in their bunkers are still whining. Grab a mirror if you want to see an example.

lol, suppose we should start referring to Dems as Team Screw America then eh? That sounds fair.

I find it amusing that Democrats are on record as supporting Viagra for sex offenders as well. Thats gonna hurt them come November. Looking forward to the ads on that! 'Dirty' Harry Reid has to go back home and admit he supports the government giving Viagra to Sex Offenders.

Molenir,
as usual you focus on the trivial and a political gimmick. It is another example of the just say no, no ideas of their own dixiecrat republican party.

Democratic Senate leaders had hoped to complete work on the fix-it bill by midday Thursday and get it quickly to Obama to avoid prolonging what has been a politically painful ordeal for the party." Why politically painful? They control everything right now.
Democrats described the situation as a minor glitch, but did not rule out that Republicans might be able to remove additional sections of the bill." Right or left, there are things that should have never been in there.
The president, who signed the landmark legislation into law on Tuesday, was flying to Iowa later in the day for the first of many appearances around the country to sell his health care revamp before the fall congressional elections." Ok, forgive my lack of US gov understanding, but he did sign it into law? Why must he still sell it?
As an exhausted Senate labored past 2 a.m." Oh please, politicians complaining about working until wee hours of the morning?
Republicans have been hunting for such violations in hopes of bringing down the legislation. Democrats had also been consulting with the parliamentarian, Alan Frumin, and hoped they had written a measure that would not be vulnerable to such problems." It shouldn't be either. It was written after all by the people we pay to govern. No excuses for mistakes! Fine them for this as they will fine us if we mistake on our taxes.
The Senate scheduled passage of the health bill for Thursday afternoon. Both chambers are hoping to begin a spring recess by this weekend." I really really hate hearing about government workers and politicians going on a recess.
It kills part of the new statute uniquely giving Nebraska extra Medicaid funds — designed to lure support from that state’s Sen. Ben Nelson — that had become a glaring embarrassment to Democrats. " Thats good and dem supporter should welcome that.
It also eases a new tax on expensive health coverage bitterly opposed by unions and many House Democrats," Good but " while delaying and increasing a new levy on drug makers." So who will be the scapegoat now?
“The majority leader may not think we’re serious about changing the bill, but we’d like to change the bill, and with a little help from our friends on the other side we could improve the bill significantly,” answered Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky." Anything short of killing the bill and starting over that includes having doctors, lawyers, chamber of commerce people, business leaders and not include union leaders means nothing. See, I told you folks, dems and repubs will flip flop at the drop of a hat.
By 57-42, Democrats rejected an amendment by Sen Tom Coburn, R-Okla, barring federal purchases of Viagra and other erectile dysfunction drugs for sex offenders. Coburn said it would save millions of dollars, while Sen Max Baucus, D-Mont, called it “a crass political stunt.”" Viagra? You mean to tell me viagra is covered? A white guy had to put that one in.
Democrats also deflected GOP amendments rolling back the health law’s Medicare cuts; killing extra Medicaid funds for Tennessee and other state-specific spending; barring tax increases for families earning under $250,000; and requiring the president and other administration officials to purchase health care from exchanges the statute creates." I told you so, and you all called me a liar. I told you. I told you.
The landmark legislation that Obama signed Tuesday would provide health care to 32 million uninsured people, and make coverage more affordable to millions of others by expanding the reach of Medicaid and creating new subsidies. Insurance companies would be forbidden to refuse coverage to people with pre-existing illnesses, individuals could buy policies on newly created exchanges and parents could keep children on their family plans until their 26th birthdays." Man, how they play with words.
The $938 billion, 10-year price tag would be financed largely by culling savings from Medicare and imposing new taxes on higher income people and the insurance, pharmaceutical and medical device industries." Now there you go, why do you guys always want to make it more difficult for us to make any cash?

Yep, Viagra is covered, and the attempt to at least make it so sex offenders couldn't get it, was turned back by Dems. As I said above, quite amusing. Coburn claimed it would save millions of dollars. Over 10 years, thats probably true.

Molenir: I don't get it, you mean we will be subsidizing a sex offender's use of viagra? Die hards, come on... you can't let that happen. this is sick

Correct, the patriot act was rushed as was the Iraq war. Action must be matched with contemplation and not just on the things you like. I was displeased by the patriot act and the healthcare bill they're both overextensions of government control and should be repealed or stripped down at the very least.
This bill doesn't provide anything, it forces parents to have some kind of insurance and it lets children stay on longer. Not-poor-people still have to buy it for themselves...or face a fine. What you’re going to get are companies offering stripped plans that provide just enough coverage to avoid the fine and an increase in insurance rates across the board to make up all the money the companies will be losing to cover people with preexisting conditions. If the company now has to cover Somerandomguy, who requires dialysis, the company is going to lose money on his account, no if's and's or but's about it. The money has to come from somewhere and it's probably not going to be the evil fat cat that makes so much money that he's outside the fine bracket and isn't required to have insurance. It's going to be me... and I'm already a contributor to the AKF and the AHA.

So now the Republicans can go back to their constituents and tell them why they don't support a struggling college student with low income. What a hateful bunch.

And they also don't support federally subsidized viagra for sex offenders. What a hateful bunch.

That was a virtual "get off my yard you damn kids" moment. It made me giggle it was so ridiculous. Really pulling out the stops on this one.
And I want to go on the record as saying I think it's wrong that rush limbaugh should get federally subsidized viagara. Just so that we're all clear.

Is that to say that Republicans and Democrats both support subsidizing viagra for non-sex offenders? No wonder the US is almost broke, with priorities like that. No helping college students get better education but an old guy with ED (as long as his not sex offender) gets discounted viagra pills.

I've read some rubbish over the years on JT, but anybody claiming the Democrats are actively seeking to subsidize a sexual enhancement drug for the criminally sexually deviant are surely intellectual deviants themselves.
I don't think it matters how badly Obala screws up with opposition of this calibre. Benny Hill would be more credible than your stock hardcore repub, were he still alive.

ca1ic0cat
Why would you subsidize viagara for anybody? Because Bob Dole said so?
Why tax tanning salons but not cosmetic surgery? Because the surgeons had the better lobbists?
Why are the congresscritters exempt from the legislation they have just enacted for everybody else?
Hey, the whole thing is a farce. I wish Benny Hill was alive to parody it. He'd have enough material for a year.

Let's just see which is a better campaign issue, boners for sex offenders or withholding someones ability to go to college. It's not like the legislation mandated that sex offenders take Viagara.
Denying money for school is shameful. Educating those on the lower rungs of the ladder is good for our society and all around good for America.

What, you mean because they don't support the government takeover of the student loan industry? Just like they don't support a government take over of the insurance industry, the banks etc. Quite a leap that one. And the thing is, Democrats voted down a provision that would have barred sex offenders from receiving subsidized viagra. Thats a direct vote. Nothing else in the amendment. Thats not banning viagra subsidies for everyone, just sex offenders.
Come on, we all know the answer to that. They want good health care, you know the kind they're taking away from the Majority of Americans. They don't want the crappy health care plans they're forcing us to have.

A year ago, had I said that republicans would fall this far, and go this crazy, I would have been screeched at for insane accusations and my posts would likely be pulled for being impolite to others.
A year later, we haven't even hit bottom.
Wow. We are [_________] <--- that far away from hearing about Democrats enjoying eating the still beating hearts of children and that they are afraid of direct exposure to the sun.
I've got my popcorn ready and my internet bill paid.
Time to get my laugh on.

The bill includes some landmark changes, like automatic increases, tied to inflation, in the maximum Pell grant award. But for individual students, the increase in the maximum Pell grant — to $5,900 from $5,550 for the 2010-11 school year — is minuscule, compared with the steep, inexorable rise in tuition for public and private colleges alike.
Since the bank-based loan program began in 1965, commercial banks like Sallie Mae and Nelnet have received guaranteed federal subsidies to lend money to students, with the government assuming nearly all the risk.
Don't worry Molenir I and many others would not expect you to support education in any way.

The banks were getting paid for doing nothing. Almost nothing, they service the loans and they will still receive payment for that work.
