Please do this. For thousands of years the only way to deal with piracy is through force, defeat, or sailing the other way. Taking over a pirate enclave is easy once you know the location of their safe haven which we mostly know now. Just mine their ports and be done with it.

Or, we could try the Russian plan and go commando on their enclaves. You don't even need to take it over, just keep the pirates from sailing out of port. Rig explosives to all the ships in port, mine it, problem solved. No need to even salt the land and put heads on poles - that is so 16th century. But do something!

these shippers are trying to get off cheap. arming the ships would be cheaper than paying the ransomes.

Everyone knows what has to be done but the authorities arent taking charge just like other world crisis. They will sit idle and talk and talk for months. Just another world issue that has to be dealt with in addition to the countless others that haven`t improved. Hurry Up Folks!

These ships move too slowly. They could maybe shoot as a warning and then shoot to kill, but if the pirates get angry the game ends there. Not enough speed to escape. It's get taken, or get sunk time.

Since every ship is on its own, and there is a constant line of ships going in various directions, patrolling by NATO must be very difficult.

Perhaps if an optional convoy was offered each way once a day, those who want protection could join in the convoy, and those who are happy on their own could steam away freely.

I agree....Blow their asses out of the water. Maybe even go Israeli style and follow them inland....

The apathy of NATO is aggravating. Typical that even piracy is now condoned.

I agree on this one, the Russians should be able to take out the pirate bases. This will allow them to generate some good will with the peaceful nations of the world. The Americans and NATO should stand back and get out of their way. There lack of action in this is much more of a sign of their weakness than any other.
