"Even in regions where the eclipse was not visible, pregnant women were advised to stay behind curtains over a belief that the sun’s invisible rays would harm the fetus and the baby would be born with disfigurations, birthmarks or a congenital defect.

“My mother and aunts have called and told me stay in a darkened room with the curtains closed, lie in bed and chant prayers,” said Krati Jain, 24, who is expecting her first child, said in New Delhi."

Dear oh dear, how backward some parts of the world are.

So glad someone in Japan mentioned that the eclipse could be seen in other countries too. You'd think Japan was the only country to have this opportunity. Saw sweet F.A. in Kanto.

    Harry Gatto:

Yes, with this sort of mentality, India is going to have a long way to go.

Uh, pukey2. The article and others on this website about the eclipse say nothing about "Japan was the only country to have this opportunity". All news media outlets here were reporting from places like India and Shanghai.

Was pretty cool in Okinawa...looked like late evening at about 1030 am, and lasted about 30 minutes. The temperature dropped noticeably during the eclipse.

The first time I heard NHK mention it was today, AFTER the eclipse happened.

OMG its the final sign of the apocolypse!!!!! runs around frantically in a blind religous panic

Anyways, aside from that, it is one gorgeous eclipse. Getting to see the natural phenomena of the plantary bodies is so awsome.

What a waste of good eclipse, shame the eclipse path couldnt have been over Europe or North America - where people would have appreciated it a whole lot more.
