Just like the US Marines 200 years ago "on the shores of Tripoli" should open fire and attack with necessary force on these Somali pirates.

Having little backward small armed pirates making fools out of well-armed navies is embarrassing and can easily be stopped if they stop showing restraint.

Heres a brilliant idea, disguise an military vessel like a cargo ship and fill it with international heavily armed navymen and have them patrol the ship routes. Allow the pirates to board and proceed to take them out or arrest them if able.

Pirates were controlled 300 years ago with cannon and sail. Why can't we do the same using our high tech against thugs in rubber boats using AK47 and RPG? Maybe it is because we do not have the will to do it or people in high places are being paid off. Something stinks the question is what or who?

The UN should allow several countries' navies to patrol and open fire when necessary. Leave the shore alone, once they are cashless, the effect will take place.

No problem folks. There are 54 tankers off the coast of Britain (also rumored to be off the US), significant numbers full to the brim, waiting for the price of crude to go up. (In so doing, they contribute to the rise) They make millions per day by not unloading the oil. This tanker here can make the ransom by being late and cashing in on new oil price rises. Win-win situation for the pirates and the oil company. Free donations to Somalia, and get it back from the motorist! Whoopee...

stirfry, I agree with this, look for pirates carrying AK 47s, RPG,s, etc past the 12 mile limit and shoot them dead. The carrying of such weapons in rubber boats and other small craft shows intent to pirate. America needs to show a spine and place attack helicopters on their ships and take out this vermin. The other nations need to do the same. Otherwise the worlds economies will be held hostage by this group of criminals. Make enough pirates feed the fish and it will discourage the rest or a lot of them!

That's the spirit. Death to Pirates. I agree. But again "World Opinion" will ruin that just like in 1991 leaving Saddam in place to pave the way for 2003. Do it now or pay for it later. Nip it in the bud now. No excuses.

The tanker is completely filled with flammable liquid and you want somebody with a gun shoot on top of that to defend? It can explode in a accident and you lost 100 million dollars of crude oil going up in smoke plus loss of crew. Then what? They might have to change the tanker route to minimize the possibilties. This will take additonal days of inconvienance.
