stupid US Navy! How Stupid can one get to let the criminals get away. Then again maybe the American Navy people got a cut of it to allow the escape.

Avast me hearties, shiver me timbers and hardy har har. The pirates have got their sacks of doubloons and pieces of eight and are off to bury it on Treasure Island. Again the likes of Black Beard, Captain Kidd and Long John Silver have gotten the best of the world's navies with their swift little pirate ships flying the Jolly Roger.
Maybe this is a message in a bottle that the Chinese and Japanese warships that are off to fight the pirates are totally useless, except for delivering ransoms in the hope that the pirates will inadvertently go down to Davy Jones in the process of getting them. Maybe it is time to go to the history books and see how merchantmen of old dealt with the pirates.

Why shouldn't pirates steal a bit of oil money ? Everyone else does. Especially in Africa.
Good luck to them. It looks like a much cleaner enterprise than other oil prospection operations.

-they still have 8 other ships in their control.
I should have went to Pirate School since the pay seems better.

Start arming the ships and put properly trained security on them.

If we know when and where these pirates take the ransom, why don't we shoot their asses and sink their boats??? If you send the message that if you mess with us, you will die. Then even the uneducated idiot pirates in Somalia will get the message.

"Start arming the ships and put properly trained security on them."
Can't get much more armed than with a ship full of arms! haha. Seriously, though, my guess is that the costs involved would be detrimental to the arms dealers and such whose boats are getting taken. More needs to be done, for sure, but I think that's what part of this is all about -- the naval ships from around the world helping out, and the worrisome fact that despite them the pirates are still accomplishing their goals in many cases.

Piracy has a long history in Islam, being just one more expression of jihad. Thomas Jefferson had to deal with it. Good luck with 'grass root exchanges' and the kind of twaddle people like smith advocate.

once a ship is armed, there are many regulations of each port that prevent it from arriving there.
the most practical is to fly in Blackwater style commandos onto the ships while out in the open ocean.
Its also the cheapskate companies that cut too close to the short to save money. Some of them also dont pay insurance.

Ignorance at its worst. So would you prefer the Russian approach of blowing up and killing everyone/everything, the bad guys along with innocent hostages and bystanders? Imagine your condemnation if the US Navy had captured/killed these pirates and the 147 hostages were killed in retaliation.
Damned if you do damned if you don't I guess...

Another success for the pirates. The half-hearted attempts of various navies to do something about these mothers only encourages more piracy. Congratulations, pirates. As long as there is no real concerted effort and cooperation between the different nations this cancer is not going to go away.

Damn, this feels like the 17th century all over again. I gotta say, with all the modern technology that we have, I am impressed at the Pirate's efforts. I don't condone what they do, but I am impressed nonetheless.
