He said his brother was “deeply disturbed by all the ills fallen upon his beloved homeland...

Yeah, the worst of these ills were at the hands of his father, the shah (aka, ruthless evil dictator).

Guess he lost hope of ever returning to be the Shah of Iran. The US used to be able to arrange that kind of thing, which is how the previous Shah of Iran was placed into power. But alas, the US is incapable of doing that sort of thing any more. It only took 4 years to vanquish Japan and Germany in WWII, but after 10 years, they are still trying to control pieces of desert in Iraq and Afghanistan. Just can't hack it anymore. So I guess it is natural that the guy gave up hope. So, how did he do it?

His father and all who supported his father were scum. But its certain not his fault. He was just a teen when the family was driven from the country. I don't like the government that replaced his father either BTW.

Reports are he shot himself in the head. As youngest son he would never have been shah, though.

America did not defeat Japan and Germany on its own, anymore than it installed the Shah on its own. Please pick up a history book or two on the matter.

Nonetheless, how tragic and what a sad loss for this young man's family and friends. May he rest in peace.

If you live in Boston, with that crummy, cold weather, sure it makes sense to shoot yourself in the head, the guy should have gone down to Miami etc..and enjoyed his life, not freeze to death then pull the trigger in crappy Boston. RIP.

according to our nanny, her family had a decent life under the Shah, interfaith marriages were accepted, secular education, women had voting rights, and Tehran itself was an international city and had gay bars. As for a CIA backed overthrow, there are many sides to the story. One realistic one is the CIA only provided funds and a handful of military advisers to "REINSTATE" the Shah. In retrospect to the current leaders of Iran, none were really elected and Achkmidinajad was only "elected" after media outlets controlled by reformers shut down... This kid had nothing to do, nor should be considered a part of his father just as much we should and we don't target bin Ladin's family.

Including the CIA, who helped install the Shah... then of course turned their back on him to sell weapons to another nation. ;)

Anyway, poor kid. I'm sorry, but he never chose that life, and clearly he didn't like what life chose for him instead. Wish he could have realized there were ways around it.
