"When President Barack Obama arrives in South Korea on Friday, he will be thrust anew into the role of consoler in chief in a time of crisis, a responsibility he has become all too accustomed to in the United States."

Whose fault is this?

Serrano@are you suggesting no president before Obama did the same thing? I seem to recall the "Doin' a heck of a job, Brownie" remark by his predecessor. It's hard to pin down just when the "consoler-in-chief" role got assigned, but Reagan did so on occasion. The Challenger disaster comes to mind.

The US presidency combines both the roles of Head of State and Head of Government. It's only natural for the President to comment on national tragedies.

Whose to blame for the need for the frequency of events which require consolation in the USA? Is that what you're asking, Serrano? I'd put NRA at the top of the list. I don't see how that has anything to do with the POTUS, though.
